Founded on the conviction that Biblical prophecy will be literally fulfilled just as revealed in the Scripture, The Sign addresses questions such as: What are the signs of the end times? Will the church go through the great tribulation of Antichrist? Who will Antichrist be? What will be the sign of the end of the age?.
This book completely changed my view of Revelation. As an Assembly of God member we were always taught that we would be whisked off to bliss while the world suffered, but The Sign uses much better analysisi of the scriptures and proves, using scripture, that the Pre-Tribulation" rapture theory is simply not in line with what the bible teaches.
The author's work is well thought out and extremely organized. His overview of the Scriptures relating to end time events is as exhaustive as possible and very understandable and persuasive. Anyone with an interest in end times prophecy could benefit from this work. Many years of his life have gone into the study and I've yet to find another work that covers the topic better.
The Author's perspective and research on this subject appears to be well defined and quite educational; and this book is based on biblical truths and spiritual revelation that is inspired by the Lord to prepare His people for End Time Events which is happening right now.
A book that should be required reading for every seminary student. Written by a man who clearly studied the scriptures and wanted to share his learning of how end time events may take place. Full of insight and wisdom.
This is the 104th book, which I completed before 2000, that I have recalled from memory.
About 3.5 stars. Its high points are that (1) it goes against the grain of most modern dispensational premillennialism by eschewing the so-called “pre-tribulation” “Rapture”—I put those terms in quotes because I find the dispensational notions of the tribulation and the Rapture to be laughably unbiblical—and (2) van Kampen was methodical, careful, and didactic in coming to and then explaining his position. Unfortunately, because of his commitment to a dispensational, premillennial view and to a Rapture that is distinct from Christ’s Second Coming, I don’t consider his position, overall, to be theologically serious or hermeneutically sound.
Nevertheless, his extensive analysis was interesting, and his many arguments against the notion that Christians would escape a future “tribulation” should give pause to those who, believing in this future tribulation, imagine that believers will avoid it. Within the non-historic premillennial camp, his scheme is the most interesting that I’ve seen.
As with all of my pre-2000 books, the “Date finished” may be up to a year off.
I've read a hundred books on this topic (hobby) and none are better than this one. The research and details impressed me so much, it caused me to change my way of thinking. Being a lawyer, that wasn't easy to do either.
An exceptional and unconventional study of End-Time Events as predicted in the Holy Bible. What I love about this book is the scholarly approach to visiting each and every mention of end-times in the Bible and forming conclusions based on what the scripture actually says—not on what we might like it to say. This is a superb study aid for anyone interested in eschatology, and for anyone interested in what the end times may actually look like (which is not what you might think).
If you have never read Pre-Wrath Rapture of the Church by Marvin J Rosenthall I recommend picking that one up and reading it and then read this one next. It is a good overview of Revelations based on the Pre-Wrath rapture view. Very interesting book with lots of good information in it
