"Pecan Candy and Huck-a-bucks" is book one of a trilogy set in late 1980s New Orleans. Readers are introduced to Peggy Lavizzo and Clint Johnston, two natives from different sides of the fence, who fall in love while "makin' groceries." An unlikely union, these opposites show how love can bridge differences and unite families together.
I read this book over 30 years ago, not long after it came out. Born and raised in New Orleans, I love the New Orleans connection. I intend to read it again. I also read "Sweeter than Candy" and "Three Times Sweeter: Love, Home and Family."
This is an important novel. A time capsule and a timeless story. Rhodesia Jackson crafted an indelible tale here, one that captures the texture of New Orleans.
