A pile of puzzling objects suddenly appears on Isabella’s porch step. As more of the same piles clutter her lawn each passing day, Isabella’s health deteriorates, arousing her best friend Bonnie to suspect brujeria in a sinister plan to destroy Isabella.
Dr. Zuniga, a renowned anthropologist, confirms Bonnie’s suspicions after seeing the evidence in Polaroids taken by Isabella and advises her that only an experienced curandero or priest can break these powerful spells.
When Isabella turns to Father Andrew for help, she is unaware he carries a dark secret that traces his family lineage back to Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden, a link tying him to the 13 ruling families of the powerful elite.
To deliver Isabella from the forces of evil, Father Andrew must travel back in time to confront deeply embedded memories of unspeakable crimes against humanity. To save a life, the perilous path into the past may cost him his own life.
In a region of the country where palm trees, the gulf breeze, piñata fiestas, and Tejano music pervade the heart of deep South Texas, old family traditions, along with a tequila blend of Hispanic and American values, invariably clash against witchcraft rituals and satanic sacrifices.
From the first word to the last, Professor Amy Frazier’s Novel “Brujeria in South Texas,” was extremely intriguing. The plot was filled with suspense. I won't say it was predictable; however, I will say the plot allows the reader to deeply connect with the situation as well as with the characters. The plot was very well explained and filled with thrill. The more you read the more hooked you become. The Characters are very realistic, the way they react is the way people in the real world would. In my opinion they have a very good sense of ‘mexican’ instinct which allowed me to truly connect with the characters. They have a strong attitude which in my opinion allows them to remain resilient. The novel was very easy to understand, it is straight to the point and has a very good flow. The details are well presented and I truly enjoyed the way the scenes changed without a sense of confusion. Amy Frazier made everything clear and allowed me to create a very good mental image of the scenarios. The novel was amazing, as a Hispanic Woman this novel truly shows what goes on in the world. The novel has a great effect showing suspense as well as thrill and emotion. Although every reader can interpret it differently, I was able to truly connect with the novel and feel for the characters as if they were part of my family.
Amy Sierra Frazier has just published her first short-story book, and I am now wondering when her next installment will be released. The story of Brujeria and its challenging outcomes have been expressed throughout the book. The story follows a young woman who’s been sought out through terrible means, unable to succumb to the evilness that lies before her. The power of God and the holy words used to deflect and extinguish evil are portrayed powerfully throughout the story.
The ability to connect with the characters in a story is fantastic, and this book very much allows you to connect with its characters. The background of each character is truly remarkable. Every character, even those mentioned in only one chapter, ties in with the others ever so smoothly. There is no sense of separation between the main story when learning about the surrounding characters that are involved.
I have never been so focused and so inclined to continue reading a book in my life. I am not an avid reader, so it takes quite an exciting summary to lure me into reading. Brujeria in South Texas is a fantastic book. I recommend this book to those who enjoy the horror genre. The story itself may not seem as scary to some, but the way the accounts of the main character's experiences are expressed will make you get an eerie feeling while reading. It is well worth a read!
This novelette, which overall portrays the perpetual battle between good and evil touched upon delicate subjects and taboos, making it an unpredictable, captivating, and thrilling work. Because of this, Brujería in South Texas may not be adequate for a younger audience. Personally, growing up in Mexico and South Texas, this novelette hit close home. This being because the author successfully provides an extremely accurate portrayal of the sociocultural makeup of this geographical area. The slang, the characters, and the vivid descriptions of the setting of this writing are truly meticulous. Additionally, the author clearly illustrates scenes and interactions between characters, and the language or structure is not baffling either. In this work, the author includes phrases and words in Spanish, which can be understood through the context of the previous sentences. As said before, the incorporation of Spanish words is part of a unique and realistic touch.
This book is very good from start to finish. It has a very good plot that captures the reader and it is easy to understand what the conflict in the story is. As the story unfolds, it makes you feel part of it and makes you connect with the characters. Personally, this story at the time of reading it left me more and more intrigued and wanting to reach the outcome quickly. If you are a suspense fan like me, I would highly recommend reading this book. It is easy to understand the story, since everything is very clear, the way the characters develop and the way the story flows. A book that I recommend reading.
Brujeria in South Texas by Amy Frazier was an extremely engaging read. The plot is well-developed, and the ending is not what you expect at all. The author’s imagery really pulls the reader into the book. The novelette has an interesting story, and the author was able to write her book in the way that included accurate Hispanic culture.
