Joyce Meyer is a New York Times bestselling author and one of the world's leading Bible teachers. Through Joyce Meyer Ministries, she teaches practically and candidly, openly sharing her experiences and helping millions of people to apply biblical principles to their situations and ultimately find hope and restoration through Jesus Christ. Her book Battlefield of the Mind has been a perennial bestseller, teaching people how to win the war in their minds and “think about what they think about.”

Joyce’s Enjoying Everyday Life program is broadcast to millions worldwide in 114 languages. She has also authored over 150 books, which have been translated into over 170 combined languages, including Battlefield of the Mind, which has sold over 7 million copies across the globe. We’ve also distributed over 43.5 million books around the world.

A survivor of childhood sexual abuse, Joyce discovered how to overcome the emotional pain of her troubled past and experience true joy, hope, and healing by applying God’s Word to her life. Her passion is to help others do the same. For more than 40 years, Joyce has held conferences across the United States and around the world, teaching God’s Word and sharing the message of Christ with millions. Joyce also encourages millions each day through social media and online efforts and resources at joycemeyer.org

Joyce’s passion to help people who are hurting is the foundation of Hand of Hope, the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Each year, Hand of Hope provides millions of meals for the hungry and malnourished, installs freshwater wells in poor and remote areas, provides critical relief after natural disasters, and offers free medical and dental care to thousands through their hospitals and clinics worldwide. Through their Project GRL initiative, they rescue women and children from human trafficking, provide safe places where they can receive an education and nutritious meals, and seek to let all girls everywhere know they are loved and valued by God.

In 2023, Joyce founded Hope Mountain Ranch, an 800-acre refuge in Mount Pleasant, Utah. Inspired by her own personal journey, Hope Mountain Ranch is a place where people can experience the transformative power of God and find hope and healing. It also serves as the hub for Joyce Meyer Ministries’ outreaches across the United States.

Great book to better understand the nature and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It's an easy read - informative and inspiring. And yes! I began to speak in tongues.

picked up this book as part of my search for more information on the Gifts of the Spirit. I am sad to say that this book did not sit well with me. I really wanted to stop reading, but at the same time I feel that if this blog were full of positive reviews I wouldn’t be true to myself. I mean if I were talking to girlfriends I would say when I came across a book that I completely disagreed with – right?

So here are some reasons that this book didn’t jive with me.

Meyer’s major point was that the gift of tongues is still a gift that every one receives from the Spirit. All we have to do is ask for it. Now mind you, I believe that the gift of tongues might have a great use, but I don’t agree with her reasoning (she says we need a special language to pray to God so Satan won’t hear (p 121) which I have never heard before, and can’t find in scripture). My thoughts on the gift of tongues are that the Spirit will use this power when God needs to touch someone and His servant doesn’t speak the same language – meaning the language is one that used vernacularly – like Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese. Meyer tells us that she received the language of Latin. Last time I checked there isn’t a country that speaks Latin and only Latin. Why would such a language bring any glory to His Kingdom?

Now if this was just an issue with a difference of opinion no biggie, the book has some nice little lines about turning to God during life’s struggles and enjoying the baptism of the Holy Spirit. However the next reason is why I felt I needed to write this post.

I do not agree with the way Meyer treated her Biblical quotes. She gives tons of scripture as she discusses the gift of tongues, but she also uses brackets and parenthesis to change words and add in extra words so that the scripture would better fit her point. My faith is based on the concept that the Bible is God’s word and it is perfect and infallible. So there is no need to adding extra words into scripture. But I do not think it is alright to tweak scripture to make your own point.

A great book to help understand the difference between having the Holy Spirit in you and being completely filled with and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit and how it changes you.

"We believers do not have to live a powerless life. We are to live as Christ lived--empowered by the Holy Spirit. The empowering of the Holy Spirit is part of our spiritual inheritance as sons and daughters of God."

In this book Joyce Meyer shares what it means to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and how we can receive it.

God has called us to be His witnesses and to accomplish mighty deeds in His name, and we need the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in order to do that. We need His guidance, His gifts and His fruits (among His other ministries to and manifestations in us) in order to live a victorious life.

I often see people’s reviews about Christian books having “extra words in brackets”. They aren’t words the author made up to make their point or add to an idea. The author is directly quoting the Amplified Bible. If you read the Amplified the Bible you will see that is how it is written. Sometimes when I read a verse in the NKJ or NIV, I will read the same verse in the Amplified Bible for clarification if needed.

This is an excellent book for those who want to know more about the Holy Spirit.

Book confused me about what the baptism of Holy Spirit is and made several references about speaking in tongues as a confirmation and that made it more confusing. These are 2 complex topics that I need to study more in order to fully understand what she is talking about. I thought we receive the Holy Spirit at salvation, all believers don’t speak in tongues but they’re still filled with Holy Spirit

It was a good book. I’m still not convinced about speaking in young’s but the rest was wonderful. However I am still a bigger fan of Max Lucado’s writing style vs Joyce’s. Overall though a good read.

This book was given to me as a gift by one of my sister-friends. Joyce Meyer did an awesome job simplistically explicating the purpose of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I love the fact that she inter-weaved her personal experience(s) from journey of how she came to fully understand the intricacies of the Holy Spirit and how it enhance us who receive it. She then guides her audience with a beautiful sincere prayer that penetrated my heart and touched the core of my inner being. Subsequently, I felt an immediate transformation and elevated newness of spirit. In turn, I gave this book to the same person who gave it to me (to use)so that she could read it and it could be a comfort to her during her time of need.

This book provides the understanding of the Third person of the Trinity, alot of us don't think of him to often and the power we have when we call upon him. This book gives such great insight to who the Holy Spirit is and backs it up with scripture. After reading this book I have so much more insight to the creator that is living with in me and how to use that power in my everyday life, for myself and for those I love.
