Agatha Christie meets Janet Evanovich, with a bit of Navajo magic thrown in for good measure.
A Charlie McGinley comedic mystery with movies, mothers & murder.
Charlie McGinley writes detective novels. His latest book is being filmed as a movie on location in New Mexico. Everything is going great... until Scott Lassiter, the star of the film, is kidnapped.
Vanessa Tanner, the female lead in the movie, is married to Scott. She quickly becomes the primary suspect in the kidnapping. Charlie, who was once engaged to Vanessa, reluctantly agrees to help her.
Then, people start dying.
Can Charlie—and Ben, his long-dead Navajo spirit guide—find Scott, save the movie, and not get knocked off, while trying to convince Charlie’s new wife that he's not having an affair with Vanessa?
SAM INGRAFFIA has been a professional writer for over three decades.
During his long career, he has won numerous awards, including the Gold Medal from Global Book Awards for his novel Bad Bones.
He was born in Chicago but grew up in Los Angeles. He attended UCLA and shortly after graduating with honors, began his writing and acting career.
Sam had no show business connections when he started in the industry, so his original plan was to write material for himself to help his burgeoning acting career.
“In the beginning, I was the only one who would cast me.”
He and another actor wrote a short pilot presentation in which they played the two leads. They performed excerpts from the project at comedy clubs and showcases all around Los Angeles. The project was eventually optioned by Universal Studios. The pilot never sold, but that was the beginning of his long, successful career as a writer.
Ingraffia has written novels, short stories, feature films, episodic television, network pilots, Pink Panther cartoons, stage plays, HBO comedy specials and multiple internet series.
As an actor, he’s made over 100 film and television appearances.
When Sam's not in his office writing, or on a set acting, he can often be found in his home workshop finishing a woodworking project. He's built or refinished most of the furniture in his home. He still lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their two cats, Oscar and Felix.
Disclaimer: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I did not read the first book, so I’m not sure what I missed out on there. Charlie is a fun character. This book has great dialogue. I love that this had a sort of male Murder She Wrote vibe.
I think I expected more Navajo related stuff in the book since it was mentioned in the description. I was a little bummed there wasn’t more. I think making it a little more personal with feeling on the inside could have added some great depth to the characters.
Overall, this was a fun read!

This book was a recent win from Goodreads. I don't know that I would call this a "cozy," per se, but it had humor, suspense, and mystery with no real gore or explicit love scenes. I liked it, and I would like to read the first one in the series. It didn't have many printing errors. I recommend it.
