A story with a heartbeat...

Losing yourself in a good book is not so uncommon. But having your emotions running all over the place? That something Skye Turner is bloody good at doing. Even though I have only read the previous book in this series, I haven't ha the chance to read any other work by Skye Turner. All I can say after reading this is, there wont be a book by this author that isn't left untouched!

The story was just so emotionally raw and realistic but at the same time sad and very damn thoughtful in every way..

Becoming James Black is a book that will capture your mind from the very first chapter. It will grip your mental thoughts and mind even after you have walked away for a break. I mean, it was damn near impossible to put this book down, too addictive but in a different way than I usually describe a story as "addictive". It was emotional and deep but it had that element of depth to both the characters and the overall plotline which made it that much harder to not be in that world even if it was just for a coffee or lunch break..

I loved this story!

Thank you so much Skye Turner for providing an ARC!! SO glad that I was able to witness the becoming of an author who's writing broke my heart but it made it feel alive and whole at the same time..

Guest Review By Tammy Cole

After Reading James Black I was really excited to learn that the author was making a book about James's back story. When I started this book I was immediately drawn in and I literally read this book in one sitting.

Jaye's story begins when he is only three years old and his mother passes away leaving him all alone. He is thrown into the foster system and struggles with every family he is with. As a last resort he is put with a family that has multiple teenage foster children and let's just say this isn't going to be a great place either. Jaye eventually meets Rose, and a connection between the two teenagers is instant as Jaye keeps watch over Rose.

I applaud Skye Turner for taking such a sensitive subject matter and telling a story that is hard to read about. This story was very well written and you immediately connect with all the characters and feel for them. This is not your typical romance story but it is a story that, unfortunately, is probably more common than what you might think. If you enjoyed James Black you will want to read this right away.

I got this ARC for an honest opinion.

Seeing the life of Scarlet and James unfold is almost amazing. Well it was amazing. Seeing the struggle into becoming who he was. Knowing the secrets. Meeting Hugo at a young age and really understanding it all.

I'm in love. Jaye fighting to protect the girls no matter what. Rose being so innocent and the thing that kept Jaye innocent. I hope to see something from the other girls. I know that is rare that it would happen but it still would be awesome!!

I love this book almost as much as I did James Black! I love dark twisted reads. Everyone likes to shy away from the ugly that goes on in the world and Skye did the furthest from it. She took real life issues that can happen to anyone and show people that no matter what....there's always a way out. I loved getting to read what happened to James and Scarlett before they became who they are know. This book has all the feels and doesn't disappoint. It's so hard to take something ugly and write it beautifully. Another knock out from an amazing author!!

Another AMAZING book from Skye Turner! Becoming James Black took her extremely talented writing style up to new levels. I will never get enough from her!

James Black is a highly successful actor with a perfect life now. But it hasn't always been like that. He lost his mother when he was very young, and ended up in the foster system. He went from family to family known as Jaye, until the last stop on the road was farm, where they worked the kids like dogs. Jaye is very close to being legally able to leave it all behind when Rose shows up. There's something about her, so he stays to protect her from pure evil, until they can leave together.

WOW WOW WOW! This is a POWERFUL story! Skye Turner takes a sensitive subject matter, and turns it into something amazing while bringing awareness to light. The story is very well done, and doesn't glorify the evil acts with too many details. Character development is perfect, and I connected to the characters on a deeper level while crying with the realistic feelings. The storyline will make you think, and it won't let you go to even take a break. Her brilliant writing has Jaye and Rose engraved on my heart forever. EPIC STORY and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This book shows off Skye Turner's writing ability unlike any other book she has written. Skye Turner is an amazing author and Becoming James Black is unlike anything I have ever read from her before. I was a little worried when I decided to read this book because this is James' Back story and most books that have a back story have huge time jumps and can be slightly choppy when reading. This book flowed from beginning to end. I honestly forgot while I was reading that it was a back story to the first book. Dare I say that this was some of the best writing that I have read from this author. While James and Scarlet's childhood was not pretty I praise the author for being able to write about such a sensitive subject with such class, but still making the reader see how horrible things can really be. This is not your average sunshine and roses story. The fact is the subject matter is hard but it something that is very real in our world. The emotions I felt while reading this not only for the main characters but all of characters was unlike anything I have felt from a book before. That being said this book is a must read.

The book is the follow up to James Black and I was lucky enough to receive a copy of both books in exchange for an honest review.

In the first book we meet James and learn he has a huge secret. In this book, we learn more about that secret as this is his and Scarlet childhood story.

It was a very profound book that had lots of elements that may disturb some readers, but I personally think it is an amazing story that touches on subjects that society tends to shy away from.

I loved reading James Black but Becoming James Black was bone chilling, goosebumps poppingly(yes I know that's not a real word) great! I had to put this book down SO many times because I was infuriatingly mad at certain unnamed characters. Or I just had to draw out this book longer thank the one day it wold take me to read it. Skye Turner puts words on pages and I just want to inhale them in one sitting. I honestly can say to much more because I would have to add spoiler alert at the very top. But honestly her James Black and Becoming James Black brings real life tragedies into a story and told in a honest and human way! Ugh...just read them because you won't be disappointed!!

Wow buddy that was harsh

I've started and put this book down so many time because I couldn't stop crying over baby Jaye. When I finally buckled down and put on my big girl panties and read the entire book I couldn't but it down. I love the love story but also the life lesson I got out of it. Everyone goes through Shit in life but it's how you deal with it that matters. Know theirs always someone looking out for you, fighting for you to make those dark moments easier and when the sun finally shines on you on the other side you'll know you came out a winner.

I received an ARC of Becoming James Black by Skye Turner in exchange for an honest review.
This is where Jaye and Rose begins. You learn about the both of them in James Black but this is the story of where they started off. I really enjoyed this story. I can't even imagine how they got through what they did. I know it is a story but to know that these things really go on in real life is very sad. I love how Jaye is a protector. Awesome series Skye!!

It was a really good story. Skye really knows how to write. I was very sad for the characters in this book. This is book is about real problems that are happening everyday. You may night hear about it or see it but it happens. And she wrote about it really well. If you like to read a dark story with a little light in it. Then you need to get this book. Skye Turner has done it again another good story.

After reading James Black, it really got you interested in what happened before. This is the perfect "before" book. I love the fact that the beginning and end are "real" time and the rest is their story. Skye made me cry. She knows I hate to cry but she did it again. If you read and loved James Black, you must get this to know why things happened in way they did.

Another truly amazing book from Skye.

To get the story behind James and how Jaye and Rose became James and Scarlett, was brilliant and very emotional. Even though its fiction this sort thing used to happen and probably still does which is heartbreaking.

Another 5 stars for Skye
