Sometimes, God gets you the right book/journal at the right time in a way that seems almost supernatural. Thanks, (in)courage for sending me this wonderful book/journal, “Introvert by Design - A Guided Journal for Living with New Confidence in Who You’re Created to Be” authored by Holley Gerth @holleygerth. I truly needed to read this book.
After making my way through it by journaling as I went, I discovered it to be an incredibly helpful book for me. I am an introvert by nature, but a professional extrovert by career. Although my hubby says I am more like a hermit at heart. :)
This book assisted me in accepting my cave-like nature at home without feeling guilty, since I exert a great deal of energy when I am out and about amongst other humans. At heart though, I enjoy the quiet, a good book, writing on my laptop, or conversing with one friend at a time over coffee. This book enabled me to gain insight into my introverted nature, while functioning as an extrovert professionally. Before I read it, I think I felt like a fraud or actress who was dramatically flawed by my dual personality. Really appreciated this book.

"I believe what introverts need most is not a skill set but a shift in mindset. It's the courage to decide that who God created us to be is enough. It's the bravery to see that for us, "loving well" looks different. It's the bold step of showing up as we are, with vulnerability and without apology."

I would like to first thank Fleming H. Revell Company for granting me an ARC through Netgalley. I greatly appreciate it!

I absolutely loved this book for many reasons. The main reason being that I'm an introvert, and many of the things described in this guide are things I've struggled with most of life...until recently. Much like the author, I used to burn myself out in trying to be an extrovert. I would force myself to be outwardly joyful by trying to be the "life of the party" or by comparing myself to an extrovert friend who, no matter the circumstance, was always energetic and kept a fast pace in life without resting. However, I ultimately found myself becoming more and more resentful at myself and what I believed to be my "flaws".

It was only when I learned to accept myself that I found true freedom from the lies. This guidebook is precisely that: freedom from the lies that introverts have come to believe. Reading this guidebook is taking that first step to transforming our mindset. After every chapter, space is provided to journal about the things which lift or drain an introvert, which helps the reader to better understand personal efficiency as an introvert. Although some of the information provided in this guidebook I had already learned on my own, it is still a wonderful confirmation that I am on the right track in my walk as an introvert. Fellow introverts, this is a must read!

Holley Gerth has become one of those authors that I like following, mainly because she not only 'gets' me, but is a lot like me. Introverted yet powerful. I love this new book Introvert by Design, because it isn't just a book, it's a great guided thirty one day journal as well. Each day starts with a title and a bit of an explanation related to that title, whether it's a story, reflection, or insight. Section one helps us focus on being 'in this moment' starting with a scripture focus followed by a short breath prayer, and a practical application or question to help you sit in this moment a little bit longer with intentionality, and ends with a wonderful quote by other fellow introverts. Section two helps us reflect on our yesterday with some prompts to fill out. Section three helps us focus on today with a different set of prompts, but it's helping us focus on tangible things, which is great. The last section is thoughts, feelings, and all the things, because again, introverts are a reflective type of people and it's good to not just think about these things, but to get them out of your head and written down. This is a wonderful journal that would be a great gift for a whole lot of different reasons and occasions.

Holley Gerth is a best-selling writer of Bible studies and other Bible materials for women, so I was happy to see that she had a new book out. And I was particularly interested once I saw this book was all about introverts! "Introvert by Design: A Guided Journal for Living with New Confidence in Who You're Created to Be" is a 31 day journal meant to help introverts see that they were made on purpose and for a purpose. Each section features a short devotional, prayer, inspiring quote, and journaling section to jot down any thoughts.

I appreciated how Gerth reframes what we need as "holy confidence" rather than the more worldly idea of self esteem. She also listed 7 kinds of rest that each introvert needs: physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social, and spiritual.

This was a quick read, and would be an encouraging journal for someone who is wondering why God made them to be introverted. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is a guided journal/book combo, which means you have some fill-ins and an empty page at the end of each chapter.

What I liked about the book? It was easy to use and reminded me of all the things I am as an introvert and why who I am created as is just as vital as the extrovert.

What I didn’t like about the book is I didn’t have a lot of room to think for myself which is a strong point for me as an introvert! There are a lot of lists that I thought I was supposed to add to, but she already gives so many ideas that I didn’t feel there was room to add. Maybe it’s my personality and the way I think. It was like she did the thinking for me and that stifled me.

Now, let’s be honest here. I’m a 53 year old woman who loves to study, has a strong introspective and has already discovered who she is as an introvert. Therefore, I wasn’t challenged much. This would have been great to do in my 20’s or 30’s, however! (Or even as a teen.)

I am an introvert, and this book very much spoke into my heart during a time in my life when I needed it most.

I looked forward to reading the devotional each day.

By talking about her own experiences, Gerth made me think about my own life and challenged me to lean into my own introversion and who God created me to be.

I really enjoyed the journal format and taking time each day to look back on the previous day, focus on the current day, and then journal anything and everything that I needed to get off of my mind. This is a practice I hope to continue now that I've finished this journal.

I highly recommend this book if you are an introvert who needs encouragement, wants to reflect on your life, or needs a reminder to embrace being an introvert.

Fantastic!

I treasured and soaked up every day of this devotion as I read. This is an excellent gift for the Introvert you know.

"The Powerful Purpose of Introverts"--Yes!

There are tips and suggestions for how to implement the best of you (the introvert) into your day. Read it slowly--as we often do as Introverts--and let the thoughts here stew in your mind and spirit. It gives you permission to be who God wired you to be. I absolutely love this book. I like the quotes from Introvert. I like the Breath Prayers that you can take with you all week long. And yes, we need to be reminded to slow down and think about the day so I also liked the "journaling" section at the end of each day.

Loved this guided journal! It pairs well with the author's book, The Powerful Purpose of Introverts. I like the short reading, quotes from famous introverts and suggested breath prayers. At the end of each day's reading there's space to write down one thing that filled you the day before, as well as one thing that drained you. For the day ahead, a space to write your concerns and gratitude. Also, 3 things you completed the day before (Ta Da list) and 3 things for you to aim for in the current day. I appreciate Holley Gerth's faith and purpose in showing that introverts don't need to "fix" themselves to be more like extroverts, that we're designed this way and have plenty to contribute just the way we are!

This 31-day journal is a perfect way to celebrate being an introvert. I loved the fact that you can journal alongside the chapters, too. There are short devotions, questions, breath moments, and relevant scripture in each chapter. The author reminds the reader that God made them the way they are for a purpose. I also enjoyed the focus on the seven types of rest that each introvert needs (physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social, and spiritual). An informative and encouraging book!

I really enjoyed Holley’s book ‘the powerful purpose of introverts’ and this is the perfect companion journal, building and developing on the points raised in the book.

I loved the daily readings, like in the book I felt seen and it helped me understand more of my unique purpose as an introvert. I really appreciated the daily breath prayer and the daily rhythm of the journaling prompts.

This would make a wonderful gift.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This journal was fantastic. Just the right amount of insights for one day to ponder on. The 31 days felt very appropriate as well. As an introvert and a follow of Jesus I really needed these truths. After a month of journeying through these truths I could sense many narratives shifting in my heart and mind.

This journal/devotional goes along with Holley Gerth's book The Powerful Purpose of Introverts. I loved the simple journaling and beautiful scriptures/messages that I am enough as God created me to be. This book was helpful for clearing my head, getting my worries out on paper, remembering the day's successes, and finding gratitude.
