Teaching Romans Volume 1: Unlocking Romans 1 - 8 for the Bible Teacher
There are commentaries and there are books on preaching - but very few books that combine elements of both to enable the preacher or Bible teacher to prepare a series on specific sections of Scripture.
This series gives the Bible teacher suitable tools to understand the context of Biblical books; doctrinal themes; the methods of interpretation; the key interpretation points and how to communicate that message for the hearer.
Whilst very useful for preachers, this book is also aimed at equipping small group study leaders, youth workers and other Bible teachers.
The books are purposefully practical. Section One contains 'navigation' material to enable you to access the text of Romans. Section 2 works systematically through a suggested preaching or Bible study series. Preaching outlines and Bible study questions are included for each passage.

Consistently helpful. Some commentaries promise great things but don't deliver, gradually making their way to the bottom of the pile and seeing occasional use only. In contrast, this unassuming volume gradually moved to the top, finally joining the short "read in full every week" category.

Solid. Really like the format of this series. It's very useful for quickly outlining a passage and its limits. The short comments on how to preach or lead a bible study for each section are also helpful. Ash does a good job of keeping the teacher in mind.

I really enjoyed it, and it proved helpful in teaching the first half of Romans. However, it reads like a rough draft at times (like someone tried to take Ash's notes and turn it into book), and it could use a bit more organization. To put it more simply, he tries to do a little too much for me. But once you can get to the main points, it's all sound and helpful.

A good lay-level commentary.
Used as a resource for a small group I lead through Romans 1-8 this past year. Ash did a very good job avoiding many of the antinomian/anti-Old Testament pitfalls that many fall in to when dealing with Paul.
Helpful.

Really great! Outside of a creative interpretation of Romans 2, this is a solid book that can easily be used by anyone looking to do a Bible study through Romans.

I used this book in conjunction with our Precept Romans study. Ash is an excellent teacher, with great explication and practical application.
