Santa Barbara based author Christina Shmidt, MS, is a nutritionist and a certified nutrition educator. Throughout The Baby Bistro, her advice is communicated in a friendly, conversational tone. It blends the basics of the latest nutrition and information with humor and great advice. I found this book a true relief! My two-year-old is a very, very, picky eater – not very fond of Gerber or any convenient and ready-to-eat baby food, which is probably a good thing for him but not for a busy career mom like me.

The Baby Bistro is definitely for organic and health-conscious moms who want to develop their infant's palate at an early age. This book gives will provide an onset to a gourmet tour and healthy feeding for your child. The thing I loved most about The Baby Bistro is how they expound on the fact that feeding your baby starts upon conception. Christina Schmidt enlightens moms-to-be with pre-birth pointers on proper nutritional diet, which benefits not only Mommy, but most importantly, the baby inside her tummy.

The illustrations are done in a cute, entertaining, whimsical manner, and the recipes are quick to prepare, clever, creative, and simple. Multicolored and lively sections such as “Foolish Fats,” “Funky Fruits,” and “Meat Monsters” will help remove some of the stress from planning and setting up food for your baby’s first year. It’s like having a good companion and a great chef at your side for each stage of this new experience. Based on my baby’s empty plate, I highly recommend these recipes for their great taste and winning textures that every baby will love….

• Adam’s Eggless Bananawama Muffins
• Broccolicious Cheesy Buttermilk Muffins
• Salmon Potato Cakes
• Healthy Chicken Apple Nuggets
• Spinach Cheese Squares
