The book adopts a hagiographic tone which does not really serve the purpose of writing a critical biography. I also feel that it exoticizes handicrafts and the work that was done to promote them in early postcolonial India. I understand that such a reverential tone is inevitable though as the author seems to have known Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay personally.
The book also contains quite a few typographical and editorial errors. But, that seems to be a problem with quite a few of the books published by the National Book Trust (NBT), India.
What works for the book, however, is its price. Being an NBT publication, it is available at a subsidized price. This might make a lot of readers go for it and learn more about the life and work of Chattopadhyay- a woman who has often been described as "the greatest Indian woman of the 20th Century".
