"Fascinating! A tour de force!"- Anke Richter, author of Cult Inside the World of Coercion and Control

Three years in a row an astrologer sends reporter Be Scofield to locations on her birthday only to mysteriously find cult stories within days of arriving. The first year she travels to Sedona and clues soon lead her to a dangerous guru named Bentinho Massaro. She infiltrates his cult and exposes him, forcing Bentinho to flee. A year later, the astrologer sends Scofield to the Pacific Northwest on her birthday and a cult murder mystery quickly unfolds on Orcas Island. Her following birthday yet another cult story unfolds within days. This time it's an international Buddhist cult at war with the Dalai Lama.

In 2020, Scofield visits Crestone, Colorado and strange events lead her to uncover the Love Has Won "Mother God" cult. An intuitive then tells her she has come to close a "dark portal" over the town and that she is working with ETs. The following year she returns to write an in-depth series on the death of Kristal Reisinger.

As Scofield becomes a prominent cult reporter, she travels as a nomad; often homeless or living in a campervan. Her healing journey takes her to powerful natural places and sacred sites throughout Hawaii and the West. As she hunts demons, she realizes she too is being hunted but is told angels are guiding her. Scofield discovers a profound truth along the the dark hides in the light.

Amazing book - for those interested in cults, spirituality, the New Age, true crime, and anomalous phenomena. Different than most cult books in that the author is familiar with the spiritual concepts of the groups she exposes, and has spiritual experiences herself, which are woven throughout the narrative. So happy this exists!

I couldn’t put the book down. This book deals with the world of cults, their methods and agendas. I was drawn to the book because of her articles. Many of the cults covered in this book were ones I didn’t know of, but quite a few were.
They all have the same if not similar modus operandi, however, and I took notes even though there’s a bunch I already knew. The one surprising aspect was Be’s spiritual path. I was quite happy to see that she was guided by spirit in the way she was led through synchronized events into her activities.
I mentioned the spiritual aspect because as a former law enforcement worker, many of the people we went after were never profiled for any type of occult or paranormal aspect associated with the crimes we investigated. This was a mistake, and I am happy to see the subject of spirituality getting an honest depiction.
There are almost 500 pages, its a long book, but it is sure worth it. Don’t be afraid to dive in.
I’ve known for a long time how the real world works. Its time the rest of civilization got caught up.
We are fighting a spiritual war, Be knows this, and she has had boots on the ground. Her path is a little bit edgy for some folks, but in today’s brutal world this is exactly what is needed.
So, this book is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning about cults.

If you already know who Be is and have read her work I'd give this four stars, if you haven't it's only worth three. You need to know a bit about her for her adventures in this book to make sense. Be does great work exposing cults but this book is one for the more spiritually inclined, as I'm not I found parts of it a bit hard to swallow.

Be Scofield's story strongly reminded me of the Winchesters' in Supernatural: Hunting demons while always on the road, always on the go, as one hunt leads into another. Except that the hunts she describes really happened. Be is an astonishingly brave and heroic woman putting herself in real, serious danger to find the truth and shine light into dark places. Some seriously dark places. The action in her narration was gripping and I couldn't put the book down. We have here the greatest cultbuster this world has ever seen, and that is no exaggeration.
Rather than an enemy of New Age spirituality, Be is a true believer in all of it. Crystals, angels, Tarot, astrology, spirit guides, psychic "downloads," friendly visitors from outer space, past lives, etheric bodies, black magic (she's against it), Reiki, Christ consciousness, et cetera—you name it, Be is there in the thick of it. This could constitute an obstacle for a rationalist skeptic reader. Don't let that get in your way of appreciating her courage and her formidable investigative skills. Part of the delight in reading Hunting Lucifer is the many colorful characters she meets along the way.
I had to set aside my years of work as a copy editor to overlook the lack of copy editing in the text. But Be describes a hand-to-mouth existence where she's broke most of the time, always moving forward on a wing and a prayer without even knowing where she'll sleep next or where her next meal is coming from. I would normally subtract a star for bad editing, but given Be's circumstances I'm not subtracting any stars.
One chapter stands in stark contrast to the others because of its total lack of action. It consists of a detailed conversation about Be's esoteric astrology chart, which was hard to follow, even for me who has studied a lot of astrology. Unlike the gripping action in the rest of the book, this chapter was tedious.
All in all, this is one of the most amazing books I've ever read, and I don't say that lightly. Be's cover photo, of a lenticular cloud shaped like the starship Enterprise that appeared over her, lends an appropriately surreal touch to the conclusion of the book. The greatest thing about Be is her dogged devotion to her work no matter what hardships are thrown her way—and above all her commitment to moral, ethical spiritual practices. She roots out many abusers and criminals and she puts them out of business. She's an honest-to-God hero.

Really I couldn't put it down! Fascinating and thrilling. ( Although trigger alert, rape murder etc) It is such a great thing that finally a smart articulate and courageous journalist is taking on the demons around new age and eastern religious groups marketing in the West. We need to know what is going on before signing up for any of them. Highly recommended. Also you can subscribe to guru magazine by Googling the author #Be Scofield

I really did enjoy this book, however, I was hoping for more of the cult experiences and leaders she exposed and a little less of her spiritual journey. However, that was her path and I’m glad she wrote about what she wanted to.

What was this rambling nonsense I just read? I was gifted this book by a well meaning friend, so I wanted to give it a go. Valuable book reading time I will never get back.

Initially I was going to bag on this book, hard. But the more I read, the more Be Scofield endeared herself to me. I hope she's okay, wherever she's at these days.

Be is a fighting the good fight. She has confronted some of the most formidable cult leaders of our time. I have immense respect for her. This book is a wild journey for sure. It’s a testament to what it takes to stand on the side of justice and speak up for victims.
