Inspiration for Educators by Others Who Have Been There In this latest volume in the popular Because of a Teacher series, George Couros sets out to ask seasoned educators a simple “What advice would you give to your first-year teacher self?” The answers from this diverse group of professionals are powerful, honest, and eye-opening. Their stories reflect expertise and vulnerability as they discuss what they wish they’d known when they started and share about the changes they’ve faced and the challenges still unfolding before them. Their thoughts and experiences serve as beautiful reminders that teaching, like learning, is an endeavor of continuous growth. In volume I, George Couros “A teacher’s influence doesn’t stay in school. It goes out into the world and cannot truly ever be measured. Every student you inspire to do something great goes on to inspire others. There is no limit to your impact.” Want proof? You are reading this book because of a teacher, and someone will go on to do great things because of you.
Although the book is intended for teachers earlier in their careers, I found that it was packed with insight for anyone in education at any level. The power within stories throughout the book was incredible. The authors of each chapter tell first experiences in education and leave you with the best reflective questions at the end of the chapter. It's absolutely worth the read.
