They only know him as Wravien. He has summoned each of them-Valex the dragonborn slave, Vel the human orphan, and Kaylessa the elvish sage-for some unknown purpose, seeming to have all the answers to their problems. He pays them generously, offers them a home, and gives them the status of heroes. But can they trust him, and can they trust each other? With each quest he sends them on, things become clearer-and more confusing. He wants to build a town, but why? What need does he have for a dangerous drunk, or a monster hunting assassin? How does he know about future events? As the three adventurers overcome the odds time after time, they learn that their mysterious benefactor holds the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Path of The Raven is a good, new fantasy novel that builds a strong emotional connection between the reader and the characters. It also offers some fresh takes on relatable life challenges as well as many "magical missions impossible" set in a mysterious new world and in a Dungeons and Dragons-like campaign setting. The magical system draws on both known and new and creative elements, which lets us happily read along while piquing our interest. This easy read still offers thought-provoking content, and has the ability to pull the reader into this new fantasy world, which is clearly painted for us with lots of meaningful details.
The story itself was engaging and the characters were relatable. It was a quick, light read for those that enjoy fantasy but don't want to read an epic, thousand page novel. The only complaints I had were the editing could have used another go over to weed out some minor inconsistencies in scenes as well as punctuation and so forth. The second was the errors if it was meant to be a D&D novel. There were some errors in regards to that as well. Overall, though, I enjoyed it and the story itself was well done and look forward to reading more.
If you’re looking for an engaging fantasy read, look no further. Characters are very dynamic, humorous and edgy, and it keeps you rooting for the main trio through their various trials. Storyline is thoroughly investable - I am looking forward to the next installment.
