The Louvre or the Louvre Museum, is a national art museum in Paris, France, and one of the most famous museums in the world.
The Musée du Louvre officially opened as a public museum on August 10, 1793, during the French Revolution. Originally a royal palace, the residence was transformed into a national museum; initially displaying 537 paintings and 184 objects of art mostly confiscated from the monarchy, church, and nobility.
