The Skilled Reader covers all the core topics of at the 6th - 9th grade level of developmental reading, mostly geared to reading paragraphs: vocabulary development, determination of main ideas and where they are stated, supporting details, outlines and concept maps, implied main ideas, transition words and patterns of organization, the reading process, and a chapter on critical reading (Inferences). In addition to these chapters, a section of ten additional readings is given as Part Two, and fifteen additional combined-skills tests are provided in Part Three.
