Excellent summary of the development of protestant theology 1920 to 1960. Sharp thinkers, burning hearts. Very clearly presented by Zahrnt who must have been a remarkable man. Wish someone could follow up so well for later Developments.

PS: My comments are based on a Norwegian hardback edition. This edition is also available online.

The Question of God is an excellent walk through the last hundred years of Protestant Theology. Zahrnt spans the philosophical and theological realms from the post-enlightenment, to modernity, to existentialism and beyond. He completes the study with an in-depth look at the theology and ramification of Paul Tillich's extensive work in understand our modern world in theological terms. Excellent, and inspiring.
