This book has so many true stories of what anyone would call miracles, that it literally made me cry as a reminder NEVER to give up hope. Yes, there are tragedies every day on this planet, but there are also events of survival that defy explanation. For instance: the four year old boy who had been diagnosed and treated for an especially aggressive form of lymphoma. Regardless, the doctors told the parents the treatments had not worked and the boy had only days, if that, to live. It happened to be Christmas (this happened in England) and despite their sadness, the parents decided to celebrate Christmas with gifts, etc. for the little boy's sake, thinking that he would never be able to do so again. He was so weak, he literally could not get out of bed. However, on Christmas morning, he ran down the stairs all excited and started ripping the gift wrap paper from his presents... When he was re-evaluated by his doctors a week later, all signs of the disease were gone. They called it a "remission", but after several more years, it has never returned. There was another story where a teenaged boy and his friend had been driving on an icy road when their car spun and they went off of a bridge into a river. The passenger died, but the driver was kept alive on machines in the hospital for 19 years, despite people telling his parents it would be more humane to just let him go. His mother was sitting in the room with him as she usually did, and all of a sudden, he woke up and asked for a Pepsi and wanted to know where he was. I will leave the rest of the story for you to read if you care to, but this book is full of examples like this, and examples of extremely premature babies being born and surviving, including one where the baby was shown to by ultrasound to be growing in the fat layers around the mom's bowel. This had happened before in Great Britain, and all of the fetuses had died within days or weeks of conception. This time, the doctors explained a groundbreaking procedure to the mom, informing her that she herself had a 1 in 5 chance of dying. The mother had the procedure done, and both the mom and baby survived, although the baby weighed only 2 and 1/2 pounds at his birth.
I believe that many times, our destiny is determined by us and the way we think. The common denominator in most of these stories is constant positive thinking. We can all learn a lesson from stories like these ♥♥♥
