The Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Book
From dark redwood valleys, through sunny oak groves and on to spectacular ridgetop vistas, the Santa Cruz Mountains are a perfect one-day or vacation destination. The Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Book is the first and still the most complete guide to the parks and trails of the mountains of San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties. It is ideal for hikers, joggers, off-road bicyclists, equestrians, and beachcombers. This book describes 1,000 miles of trails through more than 160,000 acres of mountains, forests, and pacific seashore. Including detailed trail maps and a coastal access guide to the San Mateo and Santa Cruz County seashore, this new edition has hundreds of text revisions and more than half the maps are revised. Special sections explain the natural and human history of the area.

When I need a break, I reach for my very favorite of hiking guides for the Bay area. I have discovered dozens of trails through forests, woodlands, grasslands and cannot wait to discover more! Among my favorites: San Gregorio and Pebble Beach on Highway 1, James Fizgerald Marine Reserve near Moss Beach, Big Basin, Ano Nuevo, I could go on!
