some terminology in this is outdated. this is always frustrating in contemporary literature, yet especially when in texts relating to health and wellness, given its stark implications on the understandings of the human experience as treated for, researched and explored by those in health/medicinal industries. language is subtly biased and powerfully leading; while it's always important for the reader to employ critical thinking skills when consuming new information, there is an observable tendency for people to take textbook as law, and this textbook missed the mark in modern education/real-world applications, and failed to account for gaps in scientific research, confounding variables and relevant correlations.
simply put, reading this felt closer to reading a quizlet- bullet points meant for memorization- than it did a textbook, and while it did do a decent job at laying down the basic foundations of human anatomy and physiology, that is all it does. understanding of the intellectual framework always lies in the details which this text foregoes, resulting in a passionless, sterile, unsettling tool meant for deeper learning of the human condition.
