The Reckoning: Book Three: All The Devils Are Here

Rate this book
“Hell is empty. And all the Devils are here.”

After the Riqueval Canal inferno, Durant’s company splinters. Shielded by British cavalrymen, they escape into the night and falling snow, while the Red Maiden’s legion of dead men give chase. They run south toward St. Quentin, and the promise of a barge, waiting in the river, that might carry them to Verdun’s fortress. But as night takes hold, new forces rise and join the hunt, the deeds of their pasts continue haunting every step, and the nightmare continues––an apocalyptic reckoning, inexorable, intent on devouring them all.

Jeffrey Pierce continues to deliver intricately detailed and well-researched historical fantasy in the 3rd installment (of 5) of The Reckoning. The third book advances our characters through an incredibly hellish night of the end of the world set in the middle of World War I's Western Front. We are introduced to more characters, both living and dead, adding to the complex and rich cast already established. Highlights include extended scenes set inside a WWI British tank, the apocalypse through the eyes of a long dead Roman general, and a brilliant scene depicted from the point of view of a dog. If you've already started the series, you'll no doubt buy this anyway, but if you haven't and you're reading this, go back and start with the first book.
