Final Resting Vase

Rate this book
For Scarlett McCormick, head curator of the Reed Museum of Art and Archaeology, it’s just a normal day at work. She strolls around the beautiful grounds, savoring the mild January weather in Crescent Harbor, California. But when she returns to her office, her mother calls and breaks the devastating news that Scarlett’s father is missing.

The next day Scarlett arrives at her childhood home in Ithaca, New York, to find a chill in the air that has nothing to do with the freezing temperature. Her mother receives a ransom note demanding an ancient glass vase in exchange for Scarlett’s father, but the vase is nowhere to be found.

Still reeling from her father’s disappearance, Scarlett learns more shocking news. Her father is now the prime suspect in a murder investigation. She vows to clear his name, so she searches for the truth with Luke Anderson, her friend and an FBI agent. Scarlett clings to a shard of hope even as they uncover bitter rivalries and deadly secrets.

Scarlett and Luke devise a dangerous plan to get her father back. It’s a race against time, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Will they bring him to safety before the plan shatters into a million pieces?

Final Resting Vase by Sophie Harper is a typical fun cozy with an archaeology museum curator as the amateur sleuth. Surrounded by a lively cast of assistants, Scarlett McCormick uncovers the culprit in this murder and abduction mystery.

Scarlett’s retired, academic father is missing, so she races home from the west coast to Ithaca, New York, to help her mother cope. Her mother bakes when she’s upset. I wish the novel included some to the recipes from the story.

Harper lays out all the clues in a logical way. She intensifies the story by having it set in wintertime, with snow and ice, and having the police after Scarlett’s father for the murder of his friend. A mysterious society, an erratic millionaire, and a crazy book series add to the suspense. A splash of romance is tucked in, between Scarlett and her FBI friend Luke Anderson. The characters are sensible and real.

The best thing about cozies is that they are tied up neatly at the end. Life isn’t always explained so simply. If you’re looking for a fun read in a nice neat package, then Final Resting Vase by Sophie Harper is the novel for you. Enjoy!

This one was really good! Enjoyed the mystery of this one especially with her family being involved in this one, and seeing Scarlett's relationship with Luke develop more.
