On Sunday mornings at Grace Community Church, where John MacArthur preaches, small groups gather together in Fundamentals of the Faith classes to use this manual of thirteen lessons that blend basic biblical truths with personal obedience and service. For the first time ever, Fundamentals of the Faith is available to everyone in book form. With topics ranging from “ His Character and Attributes” to “The Fellowship and Worship,” this study is ideal for discipling new believers or realizing afresh what it means to follow Jesus.
Each lesson is loaded with learning tools to help you engage If you are a new believer or know someone who is, Fundamentals of the Faith is the perfect resource for establishing a solid biblical foundation for the Christian life.
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
Hands down, one of the best books/studies I've read and been a part of. John MacArthur does a great job at breaking down the basics of what a Christian believes, in a simple and easy-to-understand way. And best of all, he uses Scripture to supplement all his main points! You may not agree with EVERY point MacArthur makes, but he is very clearly in the Word, and also offsets each chapter with a link to listen to sermons on each topic (some of the best I've ever heard). I highly recommend this book for new believers and "seasoned" believers as well. There's a lot of power in visiting or revisiting the simple truths of what we believe and where it is revealed to us in Scripture.
The title of Fundamentals is only appropriate in the sense that the building blocks of the faith are covered in the book. MacArthur goes much deeper than this in a way that is easily understood for even the new believer.
As an added benefit, there are freely accessible sermons to accompany each lesson.
This is a great book! It could be used for personal study or to facilitate group discussion.
This study was not for me. If you are a MacArthur fan you will enjoy it. While I don't disagree with much of what was taught, his manner of speaking and writing is not easy. Since part of the lesson was listening to a sermon there was little to do but listen.
Fundamentals of Faith, John McArthur is not at the top of my Admirable List of Preachers, but he’s still on the list. I do not remember his stance on the Doctrine of Cessation which is how I first heard about him on YouTube. Nonetheless, I will not go into the subject here and will stick to his literature, McArthur as an author not preacher. I bought this interactive book slash workbook after having opened the first few pages on Amazon.com. This is not a book meant to be read cover to cover. And I understood this initially. While only having access to the first few pages I was sold on the idea of having to read his Sermons online from the 1970s, to then answer the questions from his book Fundamentals of Faith while using the Holy Bible. So, we have three resources to practice with. Again, I went into Fundamentals of Faith with the intent of using it as study material. And it has not let me down. In fact, in Chapter 2 he states we Know the Bible by practicing 5 steps. Hear, Read, Study, Memorize, Meditate. He equates these like the five fingers on your hand - we need all digits to have the strongest grip. It’s a wonderful little book / exercise I will spend time with.
This has been such a great introduction to theology for my kids during homeschooling, and also for the folks at my church who've been going through it at a Bible Study especially geared towards new believers.
The workbook is designed to be used alongside a sermon series by John MacArthur and each lesson includes a link to the sermon, a memory verse, and fill-in-the-blank questions and outline. The book can be done one-on-one or as a group.
This is a great discipleship tool for those of us who may be intimidated by knowing where to start. Even my kids really enjoy working through it!
The book covers 13 topics: 🦾Intro to the Bible (books, sections, themes) 🦾How to Know the Bible 🦾God's character and attributes 🦾The Person if Jesus Christ 🦾The Work of Christ 🦾Salvation 🦾The Person and ministry of the Holy Spirit 🦾Prayer and the believer 🦾The Church 🦾Spiritual Gifts 🦾Evangelism 🦾 Obedience 🦾God's Will and Guidance
A book about Christian living. "Fundamentals of the Faith" is a workbook and teacher's guide birthed out of the ministry of Grace Community Church in CA. It has become my go-to resource for discipleship. It covers major areas of theology and Christian living. It is laced through with Scripture and practical application. Each lesson includes recommended memory verses, supplemental sermons, and a teacher's guide that adds additional material and discussion questions.
One note if you plan to use it: the Table of Contents suggests the book can be completed in 21 sessions. If you are strictly teaching it is a class, perhaps. Once you take into account discussions and questions, this resource can easily take over a year to work through.
We are currently working our way through this series as a church. This is an essential summary of Christian doctrine for new believers and for older ones to fill in needed information. It's divided into thirteen lessons that can be completed privately or as a group. However, if studied in a group setting, it will take much, MUCH longer than 13 weeks. Highly recommended.
It's a good book for understanding the basics of the Christian faith. New believers will find the book helpful in learning key doctrines of the Bible. It can also serve as a valuable review for mature Christians. The book is designed for use in a small-group Bible study setting or can be used one-on-one for mentoring others.
This probably one of my new favorite bible studies!! I've learned so much going through it, and it's the perfect study to go through with someone!! I went through it with my mom, and we both learned so much doing it together!! It's definitely worth it!
