Two adjoining claims. Two broken hearts.

Minnie Carver has a brother and sister to provide for and no way to do it. The sudden announcement of a run for land in Oklahoma seems sent straight from the Lord.

Reg Baker knows his brother will inherit the family's store--the same brother who married Reg's fiancée. When his father reads about the proposed Oklahoma Land Run, the man offers what Reg will need to set up a store. If only his father could heal his son's broken heart as easily.

Will a rival store owner's gossip ruin the one chance that Minnie and Reg have at healing and true happiness?

This is an OK American historical romance, but Harry was hard to like at first. It gets 3 stars from me.

I thought it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Minnie and Harry.

I liked Minnie, and thought it was sad all she and her siblings had been through. I liked how good she was with her brother and little half-sister, and I loved how good she was with her grandmother.

Harry was hard to like at first. with his strange comments about not wanting a ready made family. He was obviously attracted to Minnie, but seemed to have a big problem with the fact that she came with several family members. Once he got over that, he was much better -- but his initial aversion to her family was never really explained.

The premise of the series, with each story having a special recipe that the h makes, is a lot of fun. I plan to try some of them, since they sound delicious.

This is not a comment for the author, but for some other reviews I read. Several reviews mentioned a character named Reg, and it almost sounded like he was Minnie's love interest. But there was no Reg at all in the book I read. Did I read a different book? I'm confused.

This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

A great book about Minnie and her family and her need to find a way to support them after the death of her father.

Her brother, who might be younger than her; has a good head on his shoulders. Unlike Minnie who had to stay home and care for her baby sister and her grandmother who had suffered a stroke; Robert had been going to work with their father at the clothing store that he owned.

After their father's death, they found out that nothing was left for them except their home. Robert told Minnie they should leave and participate in the land run and make a new life in Oklahoma. And Minnie asked how they could do that without any money. He told her they would sell the house. Then she would bake molasses cookies, lots of molasses cookies and they would sell them along the way.

But along the way, they meet Harry but Minnie knows that he doesn't want to be tied down with Minnie's family. Read along as feelings begin to develop between Harry and Minnie but will he shy away because of her family? Not to mention some folks from their hometown come looking for them and try to kidnap Granny.

A great story full of twists and turns and some happily ever afters.

This was an exciting book. Minnie needed a place to provide for her family. Could she participate in a wild and crazy land run and get a new place for her family to live?
Reg knows his father will leave the family livelihood to his oldest brother as tradition holds true, so they come to a deal before hand to set him up in a different area with a store of his own.
When the two meet it seems like more than just a friendship! But Reg doesn't want a ready made family. What will become of these two. Will they find a common ground during the land run and subsequent time after while following the rules and setting up their businesses? My advice is to read this book immediately. It has everything you want. Drama, excitement, mystery and suspense in true Marisa Masterson form. Well written and wonderful characters.

This avid reader and retiree enjoys old time and old world holiday recipes. I am enjoying the variety of writing styles from the different authors in the Old Time Holiday Kitchen series. Molasses Cookies by Minnie is well written book that has action, drama, suspense, sweet romance and happily ever after. Minnie, as many women during this time period, makes difficult decisions to protect her siblings by staking a claim in the Oklahoma land run. Minnie, Harry, and her brother work together against a villain trying to destroy the family. A page turning read and recipe for mouth watering Molasses Cookies is included.

This is a sweet and heartwarming story of a couple, both of who have suffered heartbreak and loss. This is Minnie and Reg's story and the character development is excellent. After the couple meet, Minnie has her job cut out for her if she is going to win Reg's heart and help him heal. She decides to bake some of her Molasses Cookies for him...will they help win his heart? Will the couple, against all odds, rise above the adversity they face to find their HEA? Be sure and read this great story to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

4 1/2 stars

This is a very grab you and not let you go until the end. Drama, history, romance, mystery and a little humor makes thus a great telling of an unconventional family stay together as a family adding in another unexpected family member. Love and bonding came silently to them but love out won in the end. That and cookies saved the day more than once!

Another great book from Ms Masterson!

Harry and Minnie

Heartwarming story of one brave girl, Minnie, trying to protect her family by staking a claim in the Oklahoma land run. Her younger brother has the idea but it’s her molasses cookies (which they sell) and her strength that keeps them together. A man they meet named Harry does all he can to protect Minnie while trying to also protect his heart.  Villains try to do the family harm but who are they? Exciting historical romance with a happily ever after.

I really enjoyed this book by Marisa Masterson. I love books with strong women characters and Minnie certainly qualifies. Wanting and needing Harry’s help doesn’t mean she’s weak, just smart enough to recognize her limitations and lack of knowledge. Harry is wise to think about whether he can take on responsibility for Minnie, her brother and sister and Granny. The story has romance, humor, treachery and a few twists and surprises.

This was a good quick read! Minnie and Harry meet in Oklahoma. Minnie is drawn to Harry, but Harry doesn't want a ready-made family. When a store full of people get the wrong idea about Harry and Minnie, it leads to an unplanned, unwanted wedding. Will these two be able to make a marriage work? Will Harry be able to protect Minnie and her family when trouble comes after them?

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

Truly inspiring

This was a great story of Minnie and Harry, coming together as they do, along with her brother, sister, and grandmother. It takes a special kind of man to take on an entire family. There’s lots of drama, kidnapping, land runs, adventure, tragedy, chaos and a pesky man from Minnie’s past that follows her. Love this story and this series has become a favorite of mine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed reading this wonderful story!!

Molasses Cookies to the Rescue

Minnie's molasses cookies come in handy in several instances as she plans a move, protects and provides for her family, and seeks to win the heart of a man. Delightful characters and a fun plot.
