Who should (or when to) read this: If you are looking for information on public speaking that is short and concise (heck this one is only about an hour in audio format).

Nick’s Major takeaway(s): You do public speaking on a day-to-day basis in almost everything you do. Apply those same skills in front of a group of people.

I thought there wasn't much new here in this brief self help presentation about public speaking, and that it was a bit over-produced and dramatic. But the reminder to Stop thinking about yourself when presenting made a lot of sense, and returned the focus to the audience and the material. A few other good (albeit hardly new or different) points were covered, and it was a bit uplifting and brief, so I felt like it was ok on balance.

Stay model.
Prepare (why, know your audience, time, relevancy, be creative),
Practice (voice- what and how- words, tone, body language, be confident),
Present (be audience centered, breathe, smile, make sure you can be heard, pacing),
Review (praise, acknowledge, what did well and cover points)

Great tips on how to think more positively and actually not be fearfully of public speaking. The best part is I finished it in one commute! Great start to my day.

Just basic tips in an 80 minute audio format. Nothing groundbreaking and all pretty common sense, but not bad as a quick refresher.

I was hoping for some solid tips and tricks but this was more like… mentally make yourself a good speaker. The end.

This is a good guidance for public speaking. Short and sweet!

Drive your confidence with eye contact
Overcoming insecurity with no fear
Negative self talk set up for failure
Withholding your judgement and remember you are there to serve the audience
4 steps:
1. hear your first thought
2. say the stay model
3. Stay open
4. Get curious

Preparation
1. Ask yourself why: 2. key points 3. Know your audience 4. prepare for the presentation

Practice
Voice -equation: total msg you put forward and confidence and style

(Words, tone and body language) * confidence.

Do not use qualifying statement

Video tape yourself (without sound to check your body language)
Don't read the PowerPoint slides!
Practice to build confidence
Speak up!! Make sure the people from the back of the room can hear you.
Smile, take a breath and then start talking
The power of pause - get rid of the filler words- such as 'you know'
Lose the qualification works- such as, 'you may not agree with me but...'

It was good to pick-up the following tips on public speaking: - A speaker's popularity comes from how they talk, not from what they say. Tone of voice, body-language and confidence are more important than the words. - Being nervous does not mean you don't have confidence. - It's not about you, the speaker; it's about your listeners. SEE your audience, not yourself. - Don't hide behind Powerpoints. Get away from your notes. - See and hear yourself in action. Videotape yourself. - Get your audience to raise their hands. - Tell your audience what you're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them that you told them!
