Fabulous series

Sleeman has written another outstanding series. She also created friendships across multiple series that truly connect you to the characters long after their main story is over. She also gives real insight into challenges of faith that are believable and walks us through some difficult emotions. If you enjoy edge of your seat suspense yet unique plots, then Sleeman is an author you need to read. This is the second full series so if you prefer to read in order, start with Cold Harbor.

Dead Ringer
Since I’m reading Sleeman’s series backwards (😂) it’s fun to finally get to know the Veritas team! Emory’s story is wild and I can only imagine how hard the events would be on a person.

The search was fascinating. I was surprised by every development and liked how things came together in the end, even if it was a little fast.

Dead Silence
Just two books in and I am sensing a pattern. We spend much of the book on the case - chasing leads, discovering clues, putting pieces together. It’s really interesting and it means that the action really doesn’t start until the very end. Then things moved fast! This is not a good or bad thing, just is.

What a crazy story. It sickens me that this is not just fiction. The resolution was a big surprise and it was interesting to me that we never did get an answer for why Todd and Margo did what they did. It’s not important and that’s how life works sometimes. You don’t get to know everything.

I like Kelsey and Devon a lot and Jace was just adorable!!! His interactions with Devon melted my heart, especially the one at the end!!

Dead End
Yet another Veritas member whose life was a lie. Sierra and Emory have something in common.

I see that I haven’t read things completely out of order since this book sets up Nighthawk. Anyway… lots of moving pieces to this one. Where is Eddie? Did he embezzle money or was he set up? Is he alive? There’s a murderer on the loose and why are they after Sierra?

The action was more intense in this one and stuck around longer too. I like that things are going slower with Sierra and Reed. I’m not a huge fan of the “fall for each other in high pressure situations and get engaged a few months later” thing that happens so often. Mostly because I just can’t fathom it :)

Dead Heat
It’s finally Nick’s turn!!!! He’s been around so much in the first three, I’ve been waiting for him. And we got a mention of how Piper fits in to this crew in the last book.

What a hilarious opening! And it totally fits what I would expect for Nick’s story.

It was cool to have two MCs who do the same thing. That’s not common I feel like. Cybercrimes is way over my head and yet fascinating at the same time. There were a lot of threads that our team had to chase and figure out how they fit together but it was really fun to watch. It amazes me that someone like Nick would drive a Tesla and have so much tech in his personal life when he knows how hackable it is. After this, maybe he’ll change his views.

It just struck me and I don’t know why I haven’t thought of this before. Why are so many Christian writers putting unmarried males and females in houses together? I get that people need protection and all but it’s a bad precedent and why set up temptation. Especially for people who have a lot of sparks, like Nick and Piper. Nothing ever happens but I all of the sudden don’t like the concept.

Overall, great story!!! I think it’s my favorite of the series so far.

Dead Center
We have a new scenario with Grady and Ainslie working together and having something of a history together. Ainslie works for Sierra, so she’s not a partner and between that and her past, she’s struggling a bit with feeling like she belongs.

I always appreciate open and honest characters when it comes to feelings. It’s so mature and makes them really seem like adults instead of silly teens. Grady and Ainslie aren’t really hiding their feelings, through things have to be put on the back burner while they focus on the case.

The action was regular and the surprises kept coming in this one. I kind of started to suspect someone but didn’t suspect how all the threads wound together.

It’s silly but I’m so happy for and so proud of Ainslie! I connected with her and watching her fully accept her place at Veritas was touching. She’s going to have such a wonderful life. I loved the epilogue!

Dead End
Wow. Way to start off with a bang! A deadly toxin is being researched, the scientist in charge is missing, and at least one person is dead. Who is behind all of this and what is their goal?

Well, I was confused and mystified right until the very end. There was something different about this book. The partners weren’t in it quite as much, partly due to the subject matter and partly because Sleeman was busy introducing the Byrd brothers! Plus we needed a lot of time for Hunter and Maya and letting them figure stuff out. It was a good book, just a little different from the rest of the series.

I just have to say, I totally get where Hunter is coming from. I think his reaction is completely logical and normal. But I’m glad everything works out ;)

The middle of the book is a lot of running in circles as lead after lead turns into a dead end but the ending ramps the action back up to a 10!

You know what I would like? Info on how all the partners met or know each other and how they got into Veritas. Maybe there’s a novella somewhere?

Truth Seekers

I loved this series!! Good, clean, action. I loved that they had faith in the Lord and encouraged each other. It’s good to see the dedication to do good and help people even if that person can’t afford the price. Wish it was that way in real life.

It’s the same story

All the books in this series was good, except all the stories were kind of the same. Someone is always in danger and it’s male and female, falling in love over the danger, they get married and live happily ever after. It’s redundant.

Mystery and Murder

This story is the last of a well written series with lots of incredible characters, surprises, twists and turns. This story follows established characters though thick and tin. Enjoy!

Exciting

I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. The settings from Oregon reminded me of childhood as I grew up in Oregon and Washington. Great mysteries.

Love all of the books

I really love how easy it is to read these amazing stories. I love how they are a clean romance and how they are all Christians, just living their faith.
