In this book, Fr. Chris Seith looks at how our attachment to our devices imprisons us in a state of spiritual apathy and malaise and how the Church through faith in Christ offers us freedom and rekindles in us a sense of wonder at the beauty of reality.
An absolutely excellent book! Too often, we're drawn to screens, and too often, this leaves us numb and mindless, doom-scrolling for hours. It's a sad state of affairs and becoming more and more common. I've actually been wondering how to deal with this in my own life, when this book practically fell into my lap.
It's a refreshing, insightful, and inspiring read and one that I think I'll have to tackle a second time to fully glean everything I want to find. Fr. Seith has a lot of excellent points, and I think this is something that most of us need to read right now (preferably in book form, instead of on our smartphones!)
Amazing. This is an incredibly important book for any Christian who is concerned about their (or anyone else's) use of digital media. While phones are the biggest culprits, Fr. Seith shows how modern Internet usage is problematic. I can't say I agreed with every single point, but I was convinced by the general thrust of the book's argument, as well as many of the individual points.
What I really enjoyed was that, while the diagnosis felt on target, I was greatly encouraged by Fr. Seith's ultimate positivity: Yes, this stuff is terrible for us, inimical to human flourishing; but we have a God who knows this, who has and continues to meet us where we are.
