This book is incredibly well written and very well paced so that it was very easy to read and very enjoy.

Characters are spectacular, very real and very much people that I could relate to. I particularly enjoyed Noah & Isabell for what they brought to the spectacular story.

I highly recommend the story to everyone but in particular to those who enjoy stories about the Templar knights.

I loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait for the second. The Templar Sword did not disappoint! The characters are so real and I loved the way the relationships established in the first book developed and grew, particular Noah and Isabel, and Noah and his father. The story is full of twists and moves along at a fantastic pace. I couldn't put the book down. Highly recommended for both the young and the young at heart!

I received a copy to review for BBNYA, and my review has been withheld until after the competition ended. I also grabbed a paperback copy, as I prefer to read physical.

One of the things I worried about as this is my first year with BBNYA is the idea of 2,000 words being enough to fully grasp the worth of a story. For me, this story was not a huge win for me for round one. I was intrigued, but not desperate to continue. Luckily, I received it again, because this was one hell of an action adventure story!

This reads like a young adult historical fiction where the Templar order is searching for lost artifacts. The back likens it to Indian Jones and Uncharted. At first, I thought it odd that it didn’t mention Assassin’s Creed, as it seemed unlikely the author had not heard of it, but then I figured that might have put them as villains in readers’ minds.

Noah is desperate to follow in his family’s footsteps, to prove himself to his father, and to join the Templar order. This is the last thing his father wants, but unfortunately, it’s not entirely up to him.

The action is slick and believable, never going to the action-hero limit, while still being edge-of-your-seat enjoyable. The diving scenes really helped amp up the claustrophobic feeling and that added to the overall climactic built.

Personally a 4.5/5*. Really enjoyed it, but some of the teenage boy thoughts got a bit repetitive.

Review:
OMG what a fantastic book this was. I have read a couple from BBNYA this year but I think this might just be my favourite! I love Noah! He is a 15 year-old kid and his only ambition is nofollow inches family’s tradition and prove he is worthy of the Knights Templar (a super badass and very ancient order). His father Magnus is reluctant.

I love the story in general it is like a YA Indiana Jones, full of action, really tight prose, great dialogue and all round just a super fast paced and fun read.

A spectacular YA adventure with pacy action, comedic dialogue, a little romance and a great storyline. Noah has only just discovered that his father and grandfather form the upper echelons of the Templars, an ancient order set to protect, but he himself has been estranged from his father as his father wanted to keep him away from danger. Noah wants to dive headfirst into the action and claim.his birthright, by gaining access to an exclusive boarding school affiliated with the order. He ends up hot on the trail of a long lost artefact, one that will seal his entrance into the school. It is also coverted by an enemy, who will go to any expense to access it. This fast paced story takes us from the canals of Venice, to the heat of Seville and into the caves of a Carribbean island. An absolutely brilliant read, and one of the worthy winners of the BBNYA 2023 awards. #thetemplarsword #samclarke #bbnya #TheWriteReads

I really enjoyed The Templar Sword. It kept my interest although I love reading about the Knight's Templar and their secrecy. This story did not disappoint.
All Noah wants to do with prove to his father that he is worthy of going to the Clearwater Templar Academy and becoming a modern day Knight's Templar
Sam Clarke did an excellent job writing a book that holds the interest of the reader. It took me some time to read it but it wasn't because of the book...I had other reading commitments that I had to fulfill. The author had mystery, intrigue, adventure and some close calls with bad guys...
The characters are great and there was a lot of growth in the main character, Noah. The characters were well thought out and melded together...while reading it was like watching a movie in my head.
I truly enjoyed the story and I didn't realize it was the second book in a series...I'm off to grab the first book. But even though it was the 2nd book of the series you can read it as a stand alone. I enjoyed it and like I said didn't realize it was the second book of the series.
Highly recommend if you like Knight's Templar books and a lot of action

Thank you to Sam Clarke and BookSirens for allowing me to read an advanced digital copy of this book for an honest review...all words are mine and mine alone

Thoroughly enjoyable! Well-researched, intelligent, original, and humorous. It achieves a rare balance between an action-packed plot and skillful character development.
The whirlwind travels to look for an ancient sword from Sweden to Italy, from Spain to the Caribbean, will have you dreaming of your next holiday from the first page. I love the multigenerational set of characters, all well developed with their quirks and personal challenges.
Indiana Jones meets Enid Blyton with a touch of James Bond. This is the sequel to another book I really enjoyed. I would not be surprised if it becomes a TV series (I would certainly watch it!).
This book is classified as YA but I would say it appeals to the child/adventurer in every one of us! :)

I thought, after finishing this story, that I could feel some connection to both th main character, 15 year old Noah, and his father, Magnus.
This is an action/adventure story that has many of the elements I enjoy: globe trotting adventure; a definite villain; surprise traitors; good guys working for an organization that may or may not be as good as the heroes.
The element of the story that made this a cut above for me was the relationship story between Noah and Magnus. Having been both a 15 year old and the father of 15 year olds, I got a lot out of that thread of the story.

The book is fun to read and an escape from reality. This is a highly unlikely plot but the relationships between the characters work. Wish I could have lived even a small portion of this kids life. I do think young adult readers will enjoy it very much. Makes me think of a young version of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt.

This is an incredible adventure! A well written story that is exciting and thrilling from the very start. The characters are relatable and Noah our mc is smart and witty and a lot like you typical teen. He wants to become a modern day member of the knights templer but he father is against it. Noah believes if he can recover a missing sword then he will be allowed to join the Templers academy and so his Indiana Jones style quest begins and it’s just incredible. It’s a fantastic journey filled with danger and drama and twists and turns as they travel from place to place and I have to say it had me hook, line and sinker.

Before I begin this review, I just want to say that I didn't realize this was the second in a series until after I was a little ways in, so there are definitely things I am giving the benefit of the doubt about here. On the whole, everything was fully understandable, but there were mentionings of things that made me wish I had read the first book so I could understand. However, as I said, it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story either way!

Now for the review itself.

The Templar Sword is an EXCELLENT story, with a plot I (as a writer myself) could only dream of capturing and characters so rich in personality and presence that they were practically coming off the page. There was never any doubt in my mind that Noah, Isabelle, Magnus, Viggo, or anyone else were more than simply caricatures -- I could see aspects of them in people I know, and their actions never felt anything other than believable.

One thing more to add about the characterization in this story that I appreciated was that the decisions and thought processes they each had felt REAL. Too often, fiction stories will have characters make decisions that, while they serve the plot well, are just simply not something most people on this planet would actually do in a similar situation; horror stories are the greatest victims of this. This book, on the other hand, does not employ this at all. I could see myself doing several of the things the characters do here if I were in their shoes. I loved this, and it made me want to read more of this author's work.

The other thing that made me want to read more of this author's work was, of course, the plot itself. Now, I LOVE adventure stories, and this one in particular really scratched that itch for me. It is a cross-continental journey of many twists and turns, with moments that left me on the edge of my metaphorical seat shifting into doses of humor that expertly break the levity at just the right times. This plot is everything I want out of a story in this genre, and I genuinely can say that I have no complaints about it. It is a fun ride, one that I would be more than willing to revisit.

Of course, this story is not perfect. A few things irked me about it, which can mainly be boiled down to two things -- problems with the prose and inconsistent dialogue voices. Both of these things can be further summed up by a simple need to go through one more phase of editing.

Let's start with the dialogue. This is a frustrating one for me because there are times within this story where the dialogue is INCREDIBLE -- perfectly written, completely believable, the whole nine yards. However, there are other times when the unique voice that each character has just… disappears. There will be specific turns of phrase that repeat word-for-word, as well as just a sudden, off-sounding sense of formality that doesn't match the situation or the character. The times this happened in the story took away my immersion for a bit, though thankfully they were not mainstays.

My issues with the overall prose in this story have largely the same issues -- specific word choices that were repeated, which took away from the story's flow, the occasional typo, and unnecessary additions, like dialogue tags that don't need to be there. Once again, none of these are things that are omnipresent in this story, but when they cropped up, I did find myself a bit taken away from what was happening.

I do want to give this story the benefit of the doubt, however. This is an ARC copy, so I have no way of knowing if any of the issues I have mentioned here are actually still present in the official release. If a final proofread has occurred between the time I received my copy and the day of release that fixed what I have mentioned above, then that would be amazing. However, I have to judge this story based on what I have in front of me.

Overall, I genuinely, truly liked this book a lot. It was a highly enjoyable read that I could see myself coming back to, and it made me want to read the predecessor in its series! As a reader, I have to say to the author -- VERY well done. Your time on this book was well spent, and I think you have turned out something really great. You should be proud :)

Thank you for reading my review, and I hope you have a wonderful day!

I loved this book from the beginning. Great characters, I particularly liked Noah and Viggo.
It’s a great storyline, easy to read but at the same time compelling.
I look forward to reading more of Noah’s story and learning more about the intriguing Templars.

The Templar Sword begins with Noah. Noah is desperate for his father’s approval and to follow in his footsteps by joining the Templar Order, but Magnus will not let that happen. Noah’s relationship with Magnus is certainly complicated, but it was interesting to see how their dynamic worked, and I was really hoping that they could move forward and grow together.

The story follows Noah’s journey, doing everything in his power to prove himself to his father. He knows that finding an ancient sword that holds special meaning to the Order is the perfect way to prove his worth, but this sword has been missing for centuries, and he’s not the only person looking for it. His search comes with a lot more danger than Noah had expected, and he finds himself in some extremely difficult situations which get your heart racing.

There was such a range of characters in this story. Dragomirov and his group are absolutely ruthless. They’re certainly not the sort of people you would want to get on the wrong side of. My personal favourite character was Viggo. He’s so chilled, but clearly extremely skilled, and prepared to take on any scenario.

Full of twists and turns, this book comes together in an exciting climax that leaves you reeling. The final chapter rounds the book off beautifully, but also leaves the potential for a sequel. This book was brilliant from start to finish, full of excitement and adventure, I loved it! Noah’s journey was a joy to follow. I’m desperately hoping that this story continues, because I’m not ready to let these characters go.

I give The Templar Sword a 5 star rating!

I read this book for the final round of the 2023 Book Bloggers' Novel of the Year Awards (BBNYA) and while this wasn't my bet to win, this was absolutely my favorite.

I love the writing style. Crisp prose, so easy to breeze through. I have no problem with first person especially with YA; in fact, I love LOVE Noah's voice! Holy heck, I've been noting passages and sending them to a friend because the lines are just hilarious and I totally laughed out loud in places.

It's also amazing how well this one stands alone. I actually forgot it said so in the blurb and thought it strange that it started where it started, only to realize soon enough that it's a sequel. Yet everything still made sense!

And the cast is great overall, but Noah especially. I LOVE THAT KID OKAY?

If you like adventure, humor, family, found family, treasure hunting, this might just be the book for you! I now want to read The Twelfth Ring and any of Noah's adventures in the future.

##REVIEW IN ENGLISH##

First of all, I want to thank Sam for being patient with me this vacation, and taking the time to write an honest enough review for this book. Also thank you for offering me the second book in exchange for an honest review.

In this case the book, I know I've given it 4 stars, but in truth it's 4.5 * . I liked it quite a bit more than the first book, and see that's usually weird because they usually say the first books are the best and then it all goes downhill from there. But in this case, Sam gets what we thought was impossible, making the second book even more interesting than the first. Bravo!

I really liked how the characters unfold in this book, and also, therefore, their evolution. Also, I really liked how relationships develop in this book, especially between Noah and her father, or Noah and Isabel. The story is filled with many adventures and unexpected twists and turns and obviously in this book the fantasy is developed even more.
So I highly recommend this book, both for adults and for the younger ones.

This is certainly a book written for TODAY's youth. The main character's self-entitled, self-importance, all about me and my wants now mentality compete heavily with the plot of the book. Of course it is pointed out that Noah was taught well by his mother how to feel and behave this way. These 2 characters made completing the book a real challenge for me.
This is the second book, in what I assume is to be a series, for me it will be the only volume that I will read. I did not develop any connection to the main characters, if it had not had an interesting if somewhat haphazard plot, I would not have finished this volume.
I am sure that many under 30's would enjoy the book and connect with the characters, but it will not appeal to wider audiences. While on the surface the premise of adventure and history and Indiana Jones types might sound like a good use of your reading time, you might want to read the first chapter before buying or committing to see if you can handle the character's personality.

I received a copy for an honest review.

THIS BOOK!!! This book was absolutely brilliant, well-written, and genuinely one of THE BEST Young Adult I have read in a LONG TIME! The story was well crafted, enjoyable and beautifully researched! I will be going back and reading more from this author. Sam Clarke is a must read author. I wish her nothing but the best success, especially for this book. This book reminded me of the joy of reading again. I had been so busy with work and this and that with life and then picked this up because I find the Templars truly fascinating and I love the plot, the characters, the history, simply a must read for a fun templar and historical fiction, it had enough of the teenage angst that it is a genuine Young Adult but this is so well- written and a page-turner that anyone could enjoy it, it's a great length but I finished wanting more. Thank you, Sam Clarke for a great read! Looking forward to more from you!

I received this book from the author and the fine folks at Booksirens.com and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This tale is part coming of age (yuck, I hate that cliche), part adventure and part betrayal. The story begins with the fifteen year old son of one of the "commanders" of The Knights Templar, a quasi-religious organisation dating back to The Crusades trying to figure out how to become part of the organisation, feeling the he doesn't have the full-support of his father (who apparently was only recently reintroduced into his life in the previous novel) as they try to recover the HDP sword, a rare artefact from Templar lore.

The story itself is an interesting read, but at times appears a little too idealistic and causing some lapses when I was trying to finish this novel. As such, I feel that this book is worthy of three stars out of five.

As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.

The Templar Sword by Sam Clarke is such and easy five star rating from me. I’m not only nodding at it making the BBNYA finals, I am mildly surprise that it only came in 5th and wasn’t a bit higher. Indie authors take note this is how you do it - the writing is so easy and tight that the pages just fly by as fast as your fingers can turn them. The author is also expert at infusing humour naturally throughout. It’s just a joy to read. Where it really shines though is the characters, Noah and Isabel just leap off the page.

It’s also great to see a more lighthearted YA take on the knights Templar, usually the books I read which touch on them are much heavier. All in all this a great YA adventure, that wold be perfect for teens or indeed adults.

5 stars all the way, looking forward to what this author does next.

I received an advanced review copy of this book, to review for a tour with The Write Reads.

From the beginning, what I liked about this book was how it transported me into the world created by the author, but I still felt at home. The protagonist was Noah, and he had a relatability about him that I really loved. I found his narrative entertaining, and a little bit humorous as well.

I felt that all the characters had standout personalities, but Isabella was a cool character and I liked her dynamic with Noah.

For the most part, this book was an adventure, and it was awesome to be part of Noah's adventure as a reader. It was a fun-filled read, easy to read in one sitting, and I think in particular, it would appeal to young adult readers.

Thank you to The Write Reads, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.

Having totally enjoyed - and read twice - The Twelfth Ring, I knew I was in for a treat. The Templar Sword is gripping and fascinating, from the first sentence to the very last one. Written in a crisp style, the story flows and engages the reader effortlessly.
My only regret is not being 15-year old at the time of reading. If I were, I could fantasise about embarking on an adventure worth of Noah’s quest for the sword. The bright side of being an adult reader though, means I can appreciate the book educational value. Philanthropy, respect, the common good, transparent communication, to mention just a few, are values that Sam Clarke embeds in Noah’s adolescent world. Highly recommended for teenagers and adults alike.

The Templar Sword by Sam Clarke is one of the best indie books I have read over the past year. It has a very engaging and fun plot great characters and is very well written with loads of humour spread throughout. Noah makes for a brill character. You can really get on board with his ambitions, I love his voice and really just well done to the author for making such an engaging MC you can really cheer for.

The plot itself is a solid adventure with ancient hidden secrets and mysteries to uncover, with plenty of twists along the way and generally a very fast pace throughout.

Honestly there isn’t much to critique. Thank you to BBNYA for bringing The Templar Sword to my attention and hats off to the judges for identifying this as a worthy finalist in the competition.

DNF AT 36%.

There is nothing wrong with this book. I just don’t have the energy to read this book right now. When the short chapters aren’t enough to keep me invested in the story then I think it is a sign to put this book down.
I am hoping to finish the book before the end of the year. Because I was really enjoying it.

I saw this was a BBNYA finalist so I decided to give it ago. Its a fast paced YA adventure/mystery, well written and with really engaging characters. The genre would not generally be my cup of tea but I really enjoyed this one. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I think it would be 5 stars if I was more into the genre.

A fun read!

This may be a young adult book and I am older than that (by a lot?), but it is truly a fun read! A hidden villain, separated parents, teen angst and epic adventures scenes that are just maybe possible? It took 2 days to read it and I enjoyed every minute of it. Off now to look for a sequel........
