The Seven Deadly Sins. Vices meant to tempt and devastate humanity. Now, they are one man’s singular hope for rescuing his sister.
Six months ago, Rebecca was abducted—taken in the night by entities that shouldn’t exist, and after months of searching for her and no leads, her brother Robert begins to lose faith. Yet, Robert’s luck changes when Dez appears. She baits him with knowledge of Rebecca’s whereabouts and offers him a partnership. Robert accepts her help and that of her colleagues, two of the current embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins, beings who were once human but are now gifted powers that stretch beyond infernal or angelic abilities.
Robert finds himself an unknowing participant in a war of biblical proportions, where demons can be allies, angels are the enemies, and the Seven Deadly Sins fight for humanity’s freedom. Through it all, Robert must repay a life debt owed to his sister, discover the secrets behind her abduction, and why they have become pawns in a millennia-long battle.
Got an advanced reader copy of the book! Fantastic storyline and fleshed out characters! Not sure if I loved Dez or Luke more, both were amazing! Highly recommended if you enjoy American Gods type stories or Laurell K Hamilton!
It was just so well written! So well paced, I felt the story kept moving the whole way through. I always felt gripped and wanting more. Many nights I went to bed later than I wanted to because I just couldn’t put this book down! The characters were great, especially the sins. Who could not love Luke, was definitely a standout and my favorite! Katherine was just so fiery and so good! And Dez! Perfection! And her look just flawless, everytime she was mentioned or described I felt I could picture her perfectly! I really enjoyed this, I look forward to more things from this author!!!
A fantastic debut novel by a queer writer, “City of Sin and Virtue” explores a new take on the Seven Deadly Sins. Robert is the relatable Everyman who just wants to find his sister, and he’s thrown into a wild world with a wilder cast of characters. With so much of Bible-based lit being Revelation fan fiction, it’s delightful to see a well-crafted story about lesser-discussed biblical myth that is both thoughtful and just plain FUN.
Stevens introduced an exciting world that opens up possibilities for so many interesting characters and biblical mythologies to be explored. The nerd in me wants more to this world fleshed out. CoSaV literary universe, when?
An amazing spin on the story that we all grew up with of Adam and Eve. A look into sins and virtues that spin your mind. An incredible read that just makes me want more!!! Please let there be more to come.
love that the characters in this book are fleshed out with real motivations. So many books are filled with flat, unrealistic characters. The characters in this book are a joy to get to know. The book sucks you in. I’m really hoping for a sequel so the author can explore more of this universe.
Not being someone who is overly religious, this book takes the ideas and concepts that we all have heard for years and flips them on their head. A great read and thoroughly enjoyable characters.
City of Sin and Virtue is a fun delightful read. The characters are a unique and enjoyable twist on the seven sins. Be prepared to have so many unanswered questions as the book continues to progress so many things I wanted to know. Have no fear though Stevens while new to the scene is skilled at his craft and weaves a page turning novel. It does start a little slow don’t fret it quickly becomes a page turner. Such a fun and exciting start to this potential series..(Please let there be more).
