There is never an age limit to develop strong self-leadership and enjoy everything going with it :-). With this easy to read book, discover a really cool way to approach life transition. Yes, it is designed for people about to retire or already in retirement, however advises and tips are useful even before your play the "retirement game". Why? Retirement is a life transition like any other life transition; you have to acknowledge the loss, redefine where you stand and start seeing the win. A lot goes with your perception of yourself. Redefining where you stand is like writing a new story, and within that story the main character conserve his/her identity. What are changing are our behaviors and of course how we demonstrate who we are. I love the listed 9 opponents people face, and the game approach. I also really enjoy the tip on knowing where you put your attention. Is it in what you have lost? or is it in everything you can create out of your new context. Hence the importance of curiosity, one of the first tips the author explore. Other key notions are looked at, such as boredom, this belief window through which we see the world, the need to develop a willingness to change, the growth mindset, the importance of knowing where we channel our thoughts. Written as a story, with regular pinches of humor, the book contains useful exercises along the way which helps the changing of perspective you may get if you go for it, that is, if you decide to play the game. :-). I know - as a writer - it's not always easy to encompass all the stories we know but I would have loved more diversity in the ones shared, though that's may just be my current allergy to "White male" and "traditional Couple life" talking. Lol.

I obtained a free Kindle copy of this book as a listener of the author's podcast (The Retirement Wisdom Podcast).
Similar in spirit to Fritz Gilbert's Keys to a Successful Retirement, this book structures the entire framework around the story of fictional couple Pete and Melissa and Pete's conversations with life coach Rick. It's an easy quick read with takeaways/thought exercises for each of the author's nine retirement obstacles. I'd say it's a good starter book for the non-financial aspects of retirement - then follow up with Fritz's book for more in-depth content.

cheesy but east to read and good exercises.
Worth a read as an overview of how to approach retirement. Very easy to read as it’s written a little like a novel with a main character and his teacher. It follows the lines of most self-help books, but I liked some of the exercises at the end of the chapters.

This book is a great read, vital to anyone thinking of retiring in the next five years. There is so much that we can do to prepare for the mental challenges that come with retirement, and he does a wonderful job helping people to focus on those just as much (if not more) than the financial issues.

A great book for thinking about your retirement at any age! Includes a well crafted story about Pete’s journey but also gives realistic exercises for the reader to go along with him. I would recommend this book to any adult but especially those who are struggling to find their purpose in life.
