Very nice little book--I admit I think most kids in the age group it was written for will already know Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water, but all in all very nice. The one fact I think will surprise everybody is #842, which says "Most cats have 18 PAWS" (I believe it's supposed to be either claws or toes...sll my cats only had four paws...).
There were many great facts, but many were repeated throughout the text. This made it so there were not 1000 facts. There were many that I did not know. My nephews will enjoy this book especially the ones about the dinosaurs.
I started this book with my niece before going out to a family event and was largely disappointed upon the first few pages.
The book 1000 Facts & Knowledge for Curious Kids states its mission is to share fun facts that the whole family can enjoy, although the main audience are children and teens. Unfortunately, the author is on the boat that this must be an illiterate world for some of the facts should already be known by anyone with a brain such as they speak Norwegian in Norway, green on a traffic light means go and chocolate is made from cocoa beans.
At least one fact was repeated twice and others were more descriptions such as what can be seen on the Japanese and Canadian flags but without explanation as to what those designs mean to their people. And another similar problem was the listing of two food items that also had no description although I can assume most young readers outside that nationality won't know what either of them are.
Otherwise, the book has 13 sections of facts, although these "chapters" were loosely formed. And readers will find no matter what the facts are all listed in numerical order while ignoring the sections.
Finally, there are only a handful of illustrations, but they are normally very basic and really contribute nothing to the book.
Altogether this book was rather disappointing and I hope to find a book I would recommend for both families as well as kids when it comes to trivia. Otherwise there may be something to learn if you aren't as particular as me.
