The mysterious virus spreading through the populous has mutated into a deadly pandemic, resurrecting its victims, and turning them into flesh eating hordes of the living dead. For Margaret and her dog Maddie, there is no choice but to escape the city and seek safety in the nearby mountains. But neither can imagine the circumstances that lead to their separation in a world spiraling into chaos around them.
As the government and military focus on retaking the cities, the communities of Appalachia are left to fend for themselves. In the perilous search to reunite, Margaret and Maddie confront the unscrupulous, the selfish, the power-hungry fanatics, vicious packs of wild dogs and humans, and the onslaught of cannibalistic predators who now outnumber the living.
As cities burn and the Dead walk the Earth, Margaret and Maddie must find strength among the ashes. They will come to know that the bonds between them are worth fighting for, but that the fine line between good and evil is as thin as the veil between life and death.
Watership Down meets World War Z in this epic tale of adventure and questionable morality.
