Scar Tissue: My Fight to Survive Multiple Intense Compound Traumas

A true story detailing a lifetime of toxic relationships and shocking abuses of every sort, which started in early childhood, Scar Tissue illustrates exactly how damaging unchecked anger, untreated mental illness, and familial disfunction can be to those trapped in such environments. Never mincing words, it vividly captures the horrors and heartache the author went through in her formative years, and beyond, and how it shaped every aspect of her life, eventually leading from a suicide attempt to the growing realization that she needed to do whatever it would take to break a cycle that was all she had ever known, so that she could begin the healing process and save both herself and her children from the echoes of her past.

The immense vulnerability shown by the author alone makes this book deserving of 5 stars.

Lucy’s story is absolutely jaw-dropping, unimaginable, and truly tragic. She is a survivor in every sense of the word. The courage and bravery she has displayed, whether through confronting her abusers or writing this book to share her story publicly, is inspiring. I could not put this book down once I started it.

This book is self-published, so it certainly comes with its share of grammatical errors and storytelling weaknesses, but the raw, lived experience that is recounted on these pages isn’t tarnished by that.

This book deals with all forms of abuse that nobody should have to go through as a child and into their adulthood. It is the Raw and unfiltered truth that had to be told. Gut wrenching and heartbreaking. One hell of a survival story. Lucy pours her heart out in her memoir, and she doesn't pull any punches while doing it!

A Gripping & Revealing Account of a Violated Life

Wow! Incredible! I was completely absorbed with Lucy Henson's memoir. This is a remarkable and vivid account of one lady's struggle with child abuse from a young age. Lucy takes us through the whirlwind journey of her life which I found utterly astonishing - just to learn how people can live in such adverse circumstances and poverty. What is more astonishing is how - after all she's been through - Lucy managed to put pen to paper in such a coherent and lucid manner. The book is candid and bleak, but Lucy's voice is extremely personable without self-pity. I applaud Lucy for writing this story which will give hope to the many victims of child abuse. I also highly recommend this book to anyone simply as an eye-opener to how the under-privileged are living. You won't be able to put it down..

Lucy has written about the abuse, in many forms, that she has went through in her life. She’s come out on the other side of it a stronger woman and mother. She is trying the end generational abuse for her kids and she’s doing it amazingly. It has opened my eyes to the fact that we as a society need to start standing up for the kids who we know have gone through tough times and abuse, instead of being silent and moving on. Like she says in the ending of the book, “You might just save someone’s life.” Thank you Lucy for sharing your story with us.

Raw, at times vulgar, heartbreaking, and powerful. Lucy's writing is like stream of consciousness at times. Her storytelling made me feel the craziness that was her world due to neglect and abuse of all kinds. Abuse allowed and perpetuated by the one who should have been her champion and protector, her own Mother. It was a rough read because of the rawness and trauma that Lucy endured and still suffers from the years of abuse. Lucy is a fighter and making her voice heard.

Moved by her story and her courage. But this story was difficult to follow. The timelone was all.over the place. Very difficult to connect and stay engaged because of discordant way of telling events. Sad story. Important message. Made me realize how little I know or understand abuse. I hope I would notice the signs were I to witness them.

This was such a heart wrenching story. It gave me all the emotions. At times I was heartbroken and angry, other times I was so happy for Lucy and cheering her on. As someone who is trying to overcome, what I like to call, generational curses herself I commend Lucy for sticking it out til she made it on the other side and not letting those events define who she wanted to be.

This is the childhood/teenage life of Lucy Henson, the author. Her life has been filled with an enormous amount of abuse and trauma. This book is extremely difficult to read because of the subject matter. However, it is an extremely important book because it raises awareness of the abuse that exists in this country.

The sheer vulnerability of this true story alone makes it a five star. Lucy doesn’t hold back while writing about the abuse she went through in her childhood through her adult years. While it made me uncomfortable to read and cringe during certain parts her resilience and strength kept me reading.

Being an abuse survivor, I could feel the authors words and pain in everything she wrote. I hope that she’s able to heal and find peace after such a terrible childhood. ❤️

The things no living soul should endure. So many people failed her. Starting with her own mother. I admire the author’s courage to write a book of the traumatizing things that happened to her. And the courage she found to over come it.
