Death Never Forgets
Racehorse trainer Mike Cannon has been invited to join a racing syndicate, something he has never previously considered. By accepting the invitation he is given the syndicate's horse to train, moving it away from the stables of a very successful long time trainer and his high profile owner.
Cannon realizes that he has bought into a group of people who don't always get along...and soon people start to die.
The police investigation quickly focuses on a specific suspect, but is that person the killer?.
Meanwhile horses need to race and Cannon establishes that his new horse has ability, but also a frailty, the latter impacting the horse's success on the track. He and his assistant 'Rich' Telside put a plan in place to race him at Aintree during the Grand National festival, but first need to try a few things with the horse. Unfortunately things don't go as expected. Cannon wonders why the previous trainer wasn't aware of the horse's problem, but before he is able to ask, there is another death.
Cannon has a view about what is going on and eventually the police seek his support. albeit reluctantly.
As Cannon looks for answers, his theories are tested and someone doesn't like what he is uncovering. As he gets closer to the truth, what happened in the past comes back to haunt some of those in the present.
Cannon is not immune and needs to be on his guard. Getting too close to the truth makes him a target....
As the mystery deepens, the complex web of lies and deceit become entangled in Cannon's private life endangering more than just himself.
But who has a motive to kill?

Plenty of good National Hunt racing knowledge made up for the fact that the ending was complicated.
No clues/red herrings were given throughout the book which was sad. There was an obligatory gathering of all the suspects and a heavy explanation of whodunnit.
Just about 4 stars for me.

First class
Since I started reading Dick Francis,I cannot get enough of horseracing thrillers. The Mock Cannon books are extremely brilliant I would certainly recommend the author.
