Wings of Faith: Patience and Gratitud

Rate this book
In today’s world fueled by immediate gratification, the concept of patience is alienating. Very few people are willing to wait, prepare, and suffer temporary hardships to get to their goals. With the rise of social media which further promotes this deterioration of mind by providing instant “likes” to your recently posted photos, it is not a wonder that this dangerous culture leads to the decay of gratitude. Unfortunately, Muslims are amongst the victims abandoning the means of salvation—ṣabr and shukr (patience and gratitude), which are two sides of the same coin.

This work is an adaptation from Wings of Faith: Patience and Gratitude, a lecture by Dr. Omar Suleiman and Shaykh Muhammad al-Shareef, which discusses these two important concepts in such a profound manner. When ṣabr is often rigidly translated as patience, Wings of Faith: Patience and Gratitude touches on its broader and deeper meanings. Shukr on the other hand, is a concept that should run parallel with ṣabr, which without one, imbalance will result.

The relationship between these two means is also highlighted, debunking the belief that patience is beneficial with hardships and gratitude with blessings. This is not always the case. Both patience and gratitude are essential in the face of adversity and grace.

Read this twice, the second time with a highlighter because there so many good points in the book that needs to be remembered and revisited time and time again.

It’s a very short but impactful read. Very enlightening especially the chapters on patience. Opened my eyes to the very different meanings and ways of being patient. It isn’t just about enduring hardships or tragedies but there are other achievable ways of practicing patience in our daily life as well.

The book is also very easy to read with clear explanations.

The chapter on Gratitude is however quite short and reads more like a story telling session with another writer through his life experiences esp during Hajj.

A 4.5 rating from me.

reading this was such a great reminder to be patient in difficult times, to give thanks and appreciate the little things in life that we may take for granted easily, and to have faith in ourselves and Allah at all times. 💚⁣

also i ended up crying a lil bit after reading the last few bits and right after when i finished this book…😭😭 maybe bc it came at the right time and i have to be honest that i have been feeling overwhelmed and quite impatient lately so somehow had a mini emotional moment when i look into my life at the same time. sometimes it just gets difficult but its so important to be grateful of life always. ⁣
 ⁣
may He make us of those who are patient and grateful, both in the good times and the bad. 💫⁣

A special book, was gifted this on my birthday. Just read this masterpiece this year. I loved everything about this book, taught me so much of shukr and sabr, patience and thankfulness.

I pray that God bestows patience unto me, sabr is a very important element, no more anger, just peace.
I am going to start this year by being thankful to everything, and start being more positive.

A compelling book which offers valuable insights into the role of faith as an anchor, as we navigate through our transient and increasingly superficial life, where everyone is constantly trying to one up each other

This book wonderfully explores the different aspects of patience - practicing patience and the rewards for being patient. But, more than anything, the message i got from this is the love of God. His Grace and Kindness, transcends everything.
