Great murder mystery about a mousey girl, Sara, who is tired of living under the shadow of her gorgeous mother. Fortunately they've just inherited a gloomy old mansion on a Chicago sea side to take her mind off her inadequacies. Especially when a murder takes place during a dinner party. Sara comes out of her shell during her investigation as there is an old diary, a missing gold coin, suspicious family members and a handsome new boy she met randomly that she pulls into helping her solve the case. It's a great teen mystery that has a nice flavorful backdrop of early 80s Chicago complete with sailboats, funky window displays and lunch at the Signature Room at the 95th. for a longer review check it out at my blog -

A banal mystery wrapped in all the most old-fashioned lessons we can teach our girls. Copyrighted 1984 by Vivian Schurfranz. It was definitely better than the last Windswept I read, the extremely low stakes and boring Weekend of Fear (which should have been called, “Trapped in the Mall”).
