A beautiful short book for young children about the mothers in nature and how they raise, feed, and protect their babies, as well as how they teach them to survive in the wild. There's a good selection of animal mamas here, from brown & black bears to loons to foxes, mountain goats, bobcats, elks, badgers, pronghorns, deer, moose, burrowing owls, and owls.

It's all accompanied by great photography by Ron Hayes, who managed to catch baby animals sleeping, so cute and that'll be the delight of small children. The storytelling is very succinct and simple as well, perfectly suitable for the audience it's meant for. A great book for teachers and parents to give to their little ones to read!

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is an absolute winner. It's educational teaching kids about all different kinds of animals, teaching kids about how those animal mama's take care of their young, all accompanied by gorgeous photos of the animals. It's a great teaching resource for kids, it's great for teaching them what different animals are (my one year old loves pointing to the pictures of the animals when I read the animal name), and it's something that can be read multiple times for those bits of info trivia that aren't always what you remember the first read like how mama loon's dump their babies off their backs when they need to get food for them. This is great for kids who are young and just learning or for kids who are older and interested in animals.

This is a book that you should share with your children. It will show them the different animals in the wild and what it takes being a mom out to them in the wild and how the babies learn from their moms until they are ready to venture out on their own. I learned alot about the animals featured in this book and what their babies require when born.
I would recommend to wilderness lovers and animal lovers of all ages

Baby animals “tell you” about their mothers in Casey Rislov’s charming picture book for babies through emergent readers. With beautiful color photos on every page, this book covers a wide variety of species and habitats.

This book is flexible and can be enjoyed by very young and young readers alike. If you have very young children, you can just read the introductory text on each page. For older children, you can include the explanatory text with additional details. Each introductory sentence, in a bubble, starts with “Mama (animal) takes good care of their (kits, chicks, calves, fawns, cubs, kids, etc.).” Readers are then introduced to a little more information about each animal “mom” and their habitats and habits. This includes where and how featured animals find food, hunt, protect their young, travel, create homes (nests and dens, etc.), elude predators, and rest.

Animals featured include foxes, mountain goats, bears, bobcats, elk, badgers, pronghorns, moose, and owls.
Ron Hayes’ stunning and dynamic animal photography enriches and enhances each animal family. Delightful!

A beautiful, colorful, clear photo of different animals and interesting facts about them and their mothers. This book looks like a lovely way for a child to learn the names of animals and also about love and care in nature.
