This book tells the story of a young boy who lived with his grandmother. Life was hard for them, so they lived on mostly cornmeal porridge and the fruits she planted. When it was the boy's turn to host a game of checkers with his friends, he pleaded with his grandmother to prepare another meal besides cornmeal porridge. He was almost certain that cornmeal porridge was not something other people ate.
