There's only one thing Josh loves more than his music — Maddie Page. Maddie began as his guitar teacher, but soon grew to be his best friend. But because of Maddie's insistence they remain only friends, he's had to content himself with expressing his passions through the chords and riffs of his guitar, and pursuing his dream of leading his rock band to fame and fortune. No woman has ever come close to making him feel the way Maddie does and, inevitably, his dating relationships end in failure. Then Dawson Kidd strides into his life. Tall and lean, with a Down Under accent and a dramatic flair for rock and roll, Dawson cajoles his way into Josh's band — and his bed. Confused and frightened by his feelings for Dawson, Josh runs to Maddie for comfort and support. But Maddie is struggling with her own demons and her reaction to his news is unexpected — and passionate.Suddenly Josh finds himself with two lovers and a decision that tears at his heart and soul.
Nikki Soarde is a widely published author of erotic romance as well as mainstream romance novels.
Raised in a "progressive conservative" Mennonite home, Nikki had many issues and obstacles to overcome when it came to views on personal sexuality. Writing erotica played a very influential role in freeing her from many of those inhibitions.
She now writes contemporary, M/M/F and romantic suspense romantica. Her novels are widely published and have been translated into several languages.
Besides writing smut, she works at a hospital laboratory part time. She has been married to the same amazing man for almost 22 years, and has three incredibly smart, funny, intelligent sons to call her own. The first one is heading off to college this fall...and she is NOT going to cry. Much.
I've had this book in Mt TBR for a while, picked it out because it was a bi-menage story (which we all know I love). But I found there were some things about the book that made me wary of reading it, so I put it off. I finally read it, though, and it ended up being a fairly good book.
Series Note: No known series connections.
Summary: Josh Morell is an up and coming rocker who is feeling a bit unsatisfied in life lately. His relationships aren't working out and the one woman he really wants - his former guitar tutor, older woman Maddison Page - won't return his feelings. He's in the process of auditioning drummers for his band when in walks sexy hunk Dawson Kidd, a guitarist who thinks he's just what Josh's band needs.
Right from the start, sparks fly between Josh and Dawson. For Josh, it's a shocking turn of events. He's never before been attracted to a man. And after a hot night with Dawson, Josh runs to Maddison, who is dealing with personal issues. She finally gives in to Josh's advances and afterward, learns what has him on edge. She encourages Josh to follow his heart. But what she could have never expected was that Dawson and Josh would team up to draw her into their relationship. And she just might consider it...if she wasn't hiding a big secret.
Review: After I got this book, I was checking the end to see if it really was a bi-menage story and saw that it turns out the heroine has breast cancer and is really sick. At the end, her situation is still a bit ambiguous. That made me wary of reading it so I put it off. But I finally decided to give it a try. It was a fairly good book.
For one thing, what is not sexy about sexy rocker boys who end up falling for each other? That is super hot. These two have great chemistry and I loved reading about how they started a relationship. They were both great characters, too. Though I have to say that Dawson kinda reminded me of Spike from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
I would have liked to see more about Josh's conflict over suddenly being attracted to a guy. That whole thing seems to be oversimplified.
The story would have worked out well with just Dawson and Josh in a relationship, but I liked that they brought Maddison into the equation. And okay, I'm biased because I like bi-menage stories ;) but Josh already had feelings for her so it was kinda natural for them to involve her. Plus, the three of them together was super super hot.
There is a little bit now and then about how the relationship would be handled, how it would be seen by outsiders, how it would affect the bands career and all that, but on the whole, I thought this part of the book was way oversimplified. There was so much focus on the relationship aspect of the story that these issues got pushed aside a bit. I would have liked to have seen this are developed more. Especially in the epilogue which takes place like a year and a half later and the band is taking off.
Then there's the issue of Maddie's breast cancer. Initially it's an issue that's kept hidden. You know Maddie has a secret but not what exactly. I know it's very realistic to have something like this in a story, but honestly, it was a rather depressing, considering Maddie's family history of fatal breast cancer. It doesn't leave you with a lot of hope. And the epilogue doesn't really give you a satisfying prognosis. You're not left entirely sure that Maddie will be able to make it. That just depressed me. So I'm on the fence about this aspect of the story.
But overall, it was a pretty good book. I'm glad I finally read it.
