I was deeply moved by this book, which is a collection of letters written by the author to her beloved brother Safal over a period of 19 years (2000-2019).

The author expresses her emotions and experiences in great detail through these letters, and it is clear that despite Safal's disability, her love for him only grew stronger.

This short read of just 71 pages touched my heart and left me in tears. As someone who also has a younger brother, I could relate to the author's emotional attachment towards her sibling.

The book offers a fresh perspective on life and our relationships with our family, and I particularly appreciated the letters addressed to the reader at the beginning and end of the book.

I would rate this book a perfect 5 out of 5 without any hesitation.

Mostly Normal is a series of chronological letters written by an elder sister addressed to her younger brother with special needs. The letters are dated from the year 2001 and chronicle her early years as a child practising to improve her handwriting to 2019 as a young adult coming to terms with her brother's condition. The endless hours spent in the hospital, unanswered prayers, and yearning for companionship are some of the hardships experienced by the sister at a tender age. These epistles are a medium to emotively connect with her brother.

Reading the letters brought a flood of memories of the time when my mother took my sister to physiotherapy sessions for a year. I was too young, too naive to understand how grave the situation was, all I remember was my sister crying out loud during the treatment.

The epistolatory format translates the cycle of emotions undergone by the sister to provide a normal life to her brother beautifully into words. Written in a simple yet, easily communicative language, the book delivers a message that people with special needs, deserve love, care and respect like everyone else. Instead of placing them on a pedestal and worshipping them as inspiring beings, treat them as humans with vulnerabilities.

Neurological disorders are complicated conditions which are only treatable but not cured. In this particular condition that affected her brother, the parts of the brain responsible for speech were dead which made it almost impossible for him to express his feelings.

I hope more people come forward to share their journeys so that they can be a beacon of light to the families of others suffering from neurological disorders.

Mostly normal is a beautifully written book for children with special needs.

In this book author priyadeep Kaur has shared some letters which she has written from childhood till 2019 to his lovely brother safar who is suffering from a disability caused by one of a neurological disorder.

It's hard to write my opinion about this book as it is loaded with undying hope, suffering & the unbreakable bond which we create with our siblings.

I felt connected with the book & I'm praiseworthy to her for raising such a sensitive topic in front of everyone.

The brain is one of the most important and delicate organs in the human body. Neurological problems are those issues caused by a dysfunction of the brain or nervous system and result in psychological or physical symptoms depending on the area of the brain involved, leading to disorders. The human brain begins developing when the child is in the womb and continues through infancy until adolescence. The brain cells are mostly formed before birth, although the nerve connections do not develop until later. Neurological disorders have a wide spectrum and can have various causes, complications, symptoms, and results. All neurological conditions involve the nervous system which comprises the brain and the spine. The nervous system controls everything in the human body including movement, vision and hearing abilities.

Mostly Normal by Priyadeep Kaur is a collection of letters to her brother who suffers from a Neurological disorder. The book opens up an entirely new world and a new phase for the readers. The book focuses on and reveals the journey of acceptance towards disabilities and encouragement to take responsibility for people with special needs. The book has in it agony, sorrow, obstructions, optimism, hopefulness, inspiration, compassion, and closeness of a family with a child with special needs experiences. Gratefulness to the author, as she kept these entire years' letters safe and for the valour to make them publicly available.

The language is very much simple. It is absolutely easy to understand. At times the language felt raw and unedited but it’s the natural way the author had written them when she was a kid. I particularly loved the welcoming letter for her brother Safal. But also, there is a letter with just 4 worded, which will make the reader cry for sure. This book will undeniably open up a complete novel world and a new chapter to the readers.

Would recommend this Heart-Warming book to everyone for the lovely portrayal of emotions and love.

This book is a journey to acceptance of the mostly normal people, the emotions from a child to a now grown adult in the form of letters is a great way to show the journey and the author has shown the raw parts, the vulnerability of life in the family where one person is mostly normal.

These letter format of the book is the musings of a woman from childhood to an adult written to her diary or hopefully to her brother someday. I loved how the author has decided to be vulnerable and yet be strong in the book a wonderful work of fiction. From the initial letters which had a lot of grammatical mistakes because they were from a little girl to a well developed writing style of an adult the pages capture the readers attention and help understanding life alongside a person who cannot function as a whole but is indeed normal mostly. The author's brother has a neurological disorder and how she's struggled as a person to accept it, I loved how she loves on him and helps us understand the path though it's painful. A d the raw and unedited aspect of the letters makes it more personal and real to the reader almost as if the author herself and we readers are having a conversation.

The writing style is unique as it's a growing up thing from her childhood to the year 2019 also the fact that it is an unedited format because the author wants us to know the real her, the themes of acceptance and vulnerability pierce through every single page and the development as a writer shines as the pages go by.

Book Name -: Mostly Normal
Writer -: Priyadeep Kaur
Genre - Non Fiction

Synopsis -: Mostly Normal by Priyadeep kaur is a short compilation of the letters written by a loving elder sister for her brother. The letters covers a spam of 20+ years. She started writing these letters since the time she was a baby girl for his future sibling to show how she was desperately waiting for someone to love, some one to play with & someone to take care of.
Indeed all of her desires fulfilled but things were not like she wished for as because of some medical situation his younger brother suffered from a neurological disorder. Also she never saw it as a burden and did everything for him which she promised in the letters.
This girl was none other than the writer herself. This one her story of love!

Things I liked -:

1. Frankly speaking reading a book like this, i mean a collection of personal written letters gave me a different feeling from inside. I don't know how to describe that feeling but since the starting i found myself surrounded by thousands of emotions. As these were not just letters written by a girl. The letters actually hold lot more than that it holds innocence, it holds love, it holds desires, it holds well wishes, it holds everything a elder brother/sister wishes for his/her siblings the letters somewhere shows the feeling of every elder sibling out there. And all of these things made the book filled with emotions in every line & page.

2. The problem & the circumstances Author wanted to shares through these letters are also something which need everyone's attention. As it also tells the story of a differently abled person so this book work as a medium to understand the situation of that person too and also shows us how a family member handles the tough situation which emerges from the society & the world.

3.Reading the book from the perspective of a sister also make it more special. It shows the pure love of a sister & her care for the family. As we all think that girls are more emotional & caring & yes it is true cos when you'll read this and try to feel it from inside you'll see how a girl stand for her brother or family in tough times. Reading a book like this someone make me sad about not having a sister.

4. Talking about the book presentation, all of the letter are non edited and all are in raw style and you'll feel happiness & sadness at the same time when you'll read it.

5. The language is very easy to understand and you can finish this book in one go too. once you start reading it, you won't know when it got over.

Things I didn't like -:

1. Someone who is very sentimental should skip this book as you'll surely cry at many points in the book.

Final Thoughts -: It's such a sweet and beautiful book. I truly loved it. There's nothing about this book to not like. It presented a different perspective in front of me and also it made us realise about a lot of things too.
I'll definitely recommend this book to everyone.

I have seen people with special needs and what their parents go through. It really pierces my heart when I come across such cases and this book deeply explores the theme of acceptance and responsibilities.

The content comprises of a collection of letters that the author writes to her younger sibling. It has all the elements ranging from acute heart-wrenching emotions to a sneak peak into what the life holds for such a person and for their related family members.

The story is not just about how one deals with humans with special needs but it also talks about the unwavering hope and faith that one day things will fall in place. The raw sentiments presented in the work are a tale in itself . Above all it teaches us the value of gratitude and how we should constantly strive to be a better version of ourselves thanking God and our stars to give us a normal life .

Overall a must read book to understand the raw feelings that a kid posesses for his or her sibling and how it develops and grows with time.

For persons with disabilities, siblings are significant, everlasting sources of aid since they often spend substantially more time with their sibling compared to anyone else. Along with navigating the difficulties and changes that come with maturing, they also have many of the same complicated demands, feelings, and worries as their parents. Growing up with individuals who are different from yourself in terms of ability and personality fosters a very high level of psychological and intellectual awareness of those around you, all much years later. The letters, which were written by her from early infancy until 2019, are included in this book to show the path of acceptance of impairments and inspiration to take care of others.

Mostly Normal is a letter book by Priyadeep Kaur. These letters are addressed to her younger brother, some of which are from even before he was born. All the letters are unedited and written from her early childhood till 2019. The struggle and challenges of having a loved one with a disability is expressed to encourage people to not only care and accept those with special needs but also empathise with the family who is already having a difficult life.

In these letters she conveys her desire to have a younger sibling who will be her companion for life and with whom she will play, share and also teach all that she knows. When she is blessed with a baby brother she expresses gratitude. But when they realise that he has a neurological disorder, the younger self doesn't realise its intensity and is only thankful for having him safe. Then slowly as she grows up, the reality causes frustration and helplessness but also humbles her.

These letters are so innocent and raw that the ones written during her childhood in a broken English made me smile. Also it made me aware that a child too can have intense thoughts. She has taken us through her family's intimate journey while caring for her brother with special needs.

This book must be read for multiple reasons. To be grateful for having a normal blessed life is one. Wonderful and cherishing. Highly recommended.

This is a truly amazing book to read and refresh your mind. The author has beautifully narrated the book.

This book is a compilation of the letters written by the author to her brother. The childish English letters are my most favourite letters that I have read. Some parts of the book have made me emotional. The difficulty faced by the family when the younger siblings of the author have to be hospitalised. And the life after the family has faced. It's very hard to accept the faults in your stars when it was not your fault.

The book has an interesting start and an emotional end.

Letters have always been the best option for writing your feelings on the paper and giving it to the person you want to express your emotions with.

Mostly normal is a small collection of letters composed over a span of few years by a sibling to her another sibling.

It is a bunch of frozen emotions which every reader can feel so deeply during reading; the way author has felt while writing it.

This book has the power to make reader’s cry, the one who has also suffer from the same in some way definitely gonna cry with the intensity of emotions the letters hold.

The unedited initial letters are filled with so much innocence, longings, hope and etc etc that it can give any hopeless person a new ray of hope.

It is a very short, quick and emotional read showing a phase of author's personal life her wishes, sufferings, pain, longings, happiness, joy, sadness, melancholy each and everything.

I really appreciate the determination author has written in the last letter that from now onwards she will not write letters to her brother but she will directly pour her heart down in front of him no matter if he can understand her or not.

We can learn so much from this letters specially - Hoping, Acceptance and being courageous.

Mostly Normal by Priyadeep Kaur is a heart-wrenching and poignant book that captures the essence of sibling love and support in the face of adversity.

The book is a collection of letters that the author wrote to her brother, who suffers from a neurological disorder. Through the letters, Priyadeep communicates her unwavering love, support, and understanding to her brother, and in doing so, she gives readers a glimpse into the struggles and challenges that people with special needs face on a daily basis.

As someone who loves writing letters to friends and family, I found the letters in this book to be incredibly moving and powerful. Priyadeep's words are filled with emotion and sincerity, and they serve as a permanent token of her love and support for her brother.

Each letter is a reminder of the deep bond between siblings, and how that bond can withstand even the toughest of circumstances.

One of the things that struck me the most about this book was the honesty with which Priyadeep wrote. She doesn't sugarcoat the challenges of living with someone with special needs, nor does she shy away from sharing her own fears and frustrations. But even in the face of these challenges, her love for her brother shines through. She reminds readers that while caring for someone with special needs can be difficult, it can also be incredibly rewarding, and that the love and support of family can make all the difference.

The book also highlights the importance of advocating for people with special needs. Priyadeep talks about the challenges her family faced in getting her brother the care and support he needed, and the frustration of dealing with a system that often seems indifferent to the needs of people with disabilities. But even in the face of these challenges, she never gives up, and her determination to ensure her brother gets the care he deserves is truly inspiring.

Overall, Mostly Normal is a beautiful and moving book that fills the reader with feelings of hope, love, and strength. It is a testament to the power of sibling love and the resilience of the human spirit.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of what it's like to live with someone with special needs, and the importance of family, love, and support in overcoming even the toughest of challenges.

George Covington, A writer who is blind once said, "We are seen as inspirational and inspiration sells like hot cakes. My disability isn't a burden: having to be so damned inspiration is".

A Book based on true story; to be more precise this book consist of letters written by a 4 year old girl in eagerness to meet her new sibling, which contains all her thoughts and excitements she faced in her day to day life. But soon after the baby was born that happiness turned into a nightmare for the family and their life was not that normal anymore.

To be honest I was pretty much skeptical about reading it at first but i am grateful that i decided to go through it. The writer Priyadeep kaur talks about her sibling whose facing a neurological disorder so the book is full of their struggles as a family with a special child. But not just that, life becomes so unjust and the writer herself gets diagnosed with severe disorder which is mentioned further in one of her letters. these letters are somewhere from early 2000 to 2019. As mentioned she started writing them at the age of 4 so the letters are totally raw and unedited as how it is supposed to be, to truly get that feeling of how a 4year old child would communicate. That true and innocent emotion is indeed delivered by those letters at start. As years passed by she stopped writing them but then started again later; Now as a grown up child. Her words became much clearer and easy to understand but the struggles became much more difficult and they kept on facing a lot of tragedies. It is such an emotional rollercoaster ride going through all these letters which is beyond explanation but truly commendable to see how she accepted her fate and never lost hope and was always encouraging enough to take the required responsibility.

We often just let go of such stories with mere thinking and considering the person as a burden for the family or just encourage them with how inspiring they are by living such a life but it isn't the case. As just In writers word, their journey can be inspiring for you but they are not inspiring as they are living with their disability. if not normal, they are mostly normal, my friend."

"Disability does not teach anyone patience and courage, life does. And life is for all of us."

And this is what author Priyadeep Kaur wants to express in her book "Mostly Normal". From her personal experiences, she knows exactly how a person with special needs should be treated: not with pity, not as a brave soldier, but as a person who, if not normal, is mostly normal.

"Mostly Normal" is actually a bunch of unedited letters that author Priyadeep Kaur wrote for her brother, hoping that perhaps he will be able to read and understand them one day. Penned with love, care and affection, each letter reflects a piece of the writer's heart that she now bares in front of her readers.

The letters begin straight from the time when the author was a kid and wanted a little brother and stop right at the point where she decides to communicate with her brother directly instead of conversing through the letters.

The change in writing style is noteworthy, for the style in letters that were written in her early childhood is bound to be different from the ones that she wrote in college! It's like reading someone's personal diary and stepping into their shoes to see them ride through the journey called life.

"Lesson learned that there are going to be so many life lessons."

The letters reflect the pain, happiness, anger, strength, struggle, despair and hope of a sister who has a differently-abled brother to look after and care for. They showcase the challenges, grief, frustration and helplessness of the sibling who just wanted her brother to be that companion in life who would cover up her feeling of isolation.

But most importantly, "Mostly Normal" by author Priyadeep Kaur reveals the journey of acceptance towards disabilities and encouragement to take responsibility for people with special needs. And in all its beauty, the book is simply about two mostly normal siblings who are going to live happily together in all stages of their lives.

"Things fall apart for sure but then fall back to their place. The right place."

"Mostly Normal" by Priya deep kaur is a book that involves her life as a sister in expecting a sibling and how the journey begins from there. It’s so amazing that a four-year-old girl can able to share her feelings. A hope arises from her to find a best friend in her sibling. And she had a younger brother as she wishes but what happens after that, whether she was happy to have a brother for her to play and share things with him or it creates an emotional disturbance to her?

What the sister felt from her inner self was written as a letter and as a collection of letters, this book will create an impact of understanding a soul deep into it. The real life-challenges for her and her family starts when her brother was caused by typhoid which leads to coma followed by paralytic effect makes the life more tragedy. That affects her much yet it also gives more confident to live life happily to the fullest with her lovable brother.

Life with a disabled person is not just all about sorrow and agony, it’s all about awakening, inspiration, kindness and generosity. And that’s all the author conveyed through the messages in this book beyond her emotional challenges. The challenge is to focus on their abilities rather than their limitations.

"Disability does not teach patience and courage but life does". These words from the author gave a deep meaning of pain and at the same time, a positive approach to face the life bravely. Their life will be inspiring for others because of their special ability irrespective of their disabilities of being normal which resembles in the title as the author chooses it wisely. It’s a quiet heart touching book which speaks heart to heart with the readers.

I liked reading this book and would recommend this book for all to understand the acceptance of life challenges and changes.

'Mostly Normal' by 'Priyadeep Kaur' is something so unusual to mention about. Yet, it's something way too different; extraordinary. Therefore, it's worth praising.
This book presents a wide world to the readers. Hence, once read it reserves a place in the reader's heart. It's been filled with so many emotions. One single book, yet so many messages, struggles and phases. This piece has a touch of motivation. It seems as if each verse of this book bends somewhere. Perhaps, each verse of this book reaches the sky somewhere.
There are already so many books on the struggles of mankind. However, this book presents the genuine struggles, hardships and challanges in the disabled ones lives. Such issues deserve our concern at the priority. Therefore, everyone must read this book atleast once in their lives. 'Mostly Normal'; indeed an eye-catching title and so, it's too similar. The accent of this book turns out to be relatable, the twisted turns in this book are penned fabulously.
I commend the author for bringing ahead a complete different side of the coin to the world in such an amazing way.
This composition is way too different from that of others. Therefore, it's highly recommended. It's encouraging, inspiring, revealing, simple, genuine and soulful. As a reader, I believe; this book has a 'soul of the disabled ones' within it.
One gets over his life some or the other day but what about getting over somebody else's life? Atleast, getting over somebody else's tale.
The acceptance and the most genuine struggle.

This book would definitely open up an entire new world and the new phase to the readers.
The struggle is real and so the author's experience too making this book worth reading.

As a sibling of a brother with a neurological disorder, Mostly Normal is based on the author's own experience. This book is an outcome of the struggle other siblings and parents go through when there is a child with special needs in the family. It is a collection of unedited letters the author wrote to her brother with a clear view to the readers about the challenges, grief, frustration and helplessness of a hopeful dreamy sibling who just wanted a companion in life to cover her feeling of isolation. .

We learn from this book that no one can understand the pain of specially abled people except them. The author's language improves as he grows older. Topics shift as well. It is a heartwarming book in which you can feel the author's pain through her letters. The letters are very honest and innocent. A the years go by, the letters become more proper and more efficient. The loveliest part was when the author reveals how Marvel movies have been a shared please for both the siblings and something that they connect over. The book contains letters which she started writing in 2001, when she didn't know about tenses or correct sentence formation. The letters published in the book are unedited which makes the book unique. The real life-challenges for her and her family starts when her brother was caused by typhoid which leads to coma followed by paralytic effect makes the life more tragedy."Disability does not teach patience and courage but life does". Being an elder sibling is always a challenge. It involves a wide variety of emotions as a kid. Specially when you are a girl you feel like the only care taker, the only ones who can understand and be there for your sibling. It is a responsibilty we take up automatically even if it is not required. This book is a collection of letters from a elder sister to her little brother even before he was born.

She feels that a sibling can be her best friend. She shares her fears, thoughts and events of her day through letters to a sibling who she wishes to be with. Finally there is the good news and she is able to meet her little brother. When due to some medical issues her brother faces physical and intellectual challeges she grows really close to him.

From this book we get to know that no one can understand the pain of specially abled people other than themselves. The struggles are not only physical but emotional and intellectual as well. They don't need pity but maybe a word of encouragement and understanding will do. The factor that makes this book unique is that the author showed courage to present the unedited letters from her childhood with a raw language that a kid can use. The language improves as the author grows up. The topics change as well. It is a heart warming book and you can feel the pain of author through her letters. She is there for her brother when he takes his first step, his first class and starts understanding the concepts of life. She goes through molestation and struggles of her own life but the pain of not able to share the things with her brother can be felt through the letters.

This book will make you feel the depth of a sister's heart and it is a very small read so it won't take up much of your time. A recommended read.

Title: Mostly Normal
Author: Priyadeep Kaur
Length: 142 pages
Publisher: Book soul reads

This book is a compilation of letters that the author wrote to her younger brother during the course of their relationship. The letters were written in 2001 and capture her early years, beginning when she was a child practising her handwriting and continuing into 2019 when she was a young adult coping with her brother's illness.

She and her family try their best to make ends meet despite the fact that she is emotionally spent in order to survive in a world where the expectations and requirements are never-ending.

This is based on the author's actual life and events. A narrative about beating the worst sickness by maintaining an unyielding resolve and a high morale while maintaining the deepest possible conviction in the power of the ultimate being.

Strongly recommended for everybody who feels stopped at any point in their lives and is looking for a jolt of desire to get them moving again.

The book is a diary in which sibling love, care, and affection are expressed. I really enjoyed each and every page of the book. No matter who we are, we all long for true love. It doesn’t end with a romantic relationship between two individuals. Love and bonding can be shared between strangers, parents, kids, and siblings too. We can’t judge or weigh the level we love each other.
Here, Lovedeep (Priyadeep) shows all her love for her unborn brother with childish English in the first few pages. Slowly, the way of writing changed from a childish form to a mature form.
She wrote each and every incident of her life, along with her brother. Starting from when he was born, what he went through, and how she admired him for fighting back all the challenges with full courage. I was actually mesmerized by the words written. I can feel the pure love that exists in each word of the author.
We often feel pity on others who have any kind of disability. However, this book provided a different perspective, viewing their disability as an added blessing and treating them as normal. This can give them confidence to achieve things even more than before.
My favorite lines from the book which I cherish are, "Dear Brother, though I was in a toxic relationship, I still chose him without letting go. When he asked if the child born from you would be like your brother? At that moment, I walked away from him without any second thought. Because I can leave anyone for the sake of you. But not you. I love you, brother!! Wakeup soon. Your sister is waiting for you!

FIRST WORD: Heart Warming and beautiful. It'll bring tears to your eyes and also fill your heart with joy.

SYNOPSIS: The book is a collection of letters written by the author to her younger brother since before he was born. As a four year old kid, the author aspired to have a best friend in the form of a sibling, promising to give him her world. The letters chronicle the kid's life, her school experiences and how deeply she wishes to have a sibling, a natural best friend of her.
But when the baby is born, within a month, a tragedy occurs and leaves the family devastated. The baby recovers but not fully. The kid stops writing her letters.
Years later, the author picks up writing again when she one day finds those letters. Now she has grown up and her writing has matured. But we see the struggles of a growing woman and a big sister to a brother who leads a mostly normal life. But her love towards her brother and her sense of affection and care is the one thing that remains constant throughout the years.
And that is the most beautiful feeling when you read the book.

MY VIEWS: I cannot express how heart warming this book is. Anyone who has had a family member with special needs knows how truly special that person is, and how the world isn't always a welcoming place for them. But having a big sister like the author here is probably the biggest blessing someone could get.
The writing is raw and honest. It lays bare every event, every struggle and every bit of love.
It is truly an inspiring piece.

Me and my younger brother, although we love each other a lot but tbh we have most illogical fights too. And our parents are damn irritated with our fights🥲🥲🤭🤭🤭.
And almost every siblings do these acts.

But what if you can have a fight or can't irritate your brother or sister like this?
Have you ever wondered how your life would be without there presence?

Well the book is all about a brother sister love but a but unique and quite heart touching one.

Where a sister shares her infinite love for her brother who is going through some neurological disease and needs extra care, sympathy and love. No wonder how angry you are on his act you have stay patient and deal accordingly.

Moreover by this book the author wants to state and change the mentality of people. Where surrounding or family members treat such special children with abnormality and weird eyes, the author wants to convey a message that these special children are also normal ❤ treat them the same way you treat a normal human and see the difference.
These people too go through doubtful , heinous and not sympathetic challenges then why to burden them with our false love and un caring efforts..

Btw I loved the book, although some where I felt that this line is in correct and need some modification . But I won't mention them as the letters written by the author is a symbol of pure and dedicated love for her brother.
The more raw letters Will be the more we can connect with them.

Mostly Normal by Priyadeep Kaur is a heartfelt book which will touch your soul. This book is a collection of letters written by the author to her brother. She started writing these letters when she was very little and her brother was yet to arrive in the world. We can see how badly she wanted a brother – with whom she can share her love and care for him. We can see from those letters how sweet and simple she must have been. When she got her wish and got herself a brother, she was on the moon. But destiny had some other plans! Her brother, who is named Safal, got very sick in his early days. The family almost lost him but his bravery and the prayers of the beloved family brought him back. But the sickness has caused a lot of harm. The boy would continue to suffer. Priyadeep continued writing him letters and we know from those letters how difficult it was for her and the entire family to see someone you love struggle and suffer daily. Those letters show us how beautiful her soul is and how deep is the connection with her brother. The author is brave enough to let us inside her heart by publishing these letters. Hardly ever realize how difficult it is for the family who is taking care of children with special needs. We should not pity them but we should respect and love them. We must acknowledge the struggle which these families undergo every day. And just as Priyadeep has said, these children may not be entirely normal but they are mostly normal!
