This Thing Has A Name is a children’s book, for all ages, demystifying childhood anxiety. The book demonstrates that feelings can pop-up uninvited and may bring along fear, rage, or confusion - and sometimes make our bodies feel icky. This book walks children and their Loved Ones through the ups and downs of emotions, and to welcome them rather than avoid them. It also describes ways to help recognize those big uncomfortable feelings and help normalize them. There are tools for helping children cope with these emotions by finding safety within themselves and with their Loved Ones.
Amanda Bacon-Davis is a successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, and a proud advocate for supporting the mental health community. She has a beautiful daughter, Ella Rain, two amazing bonus kids (who are actually wonderful adults), and the most loving husband in the world. Amanda and her family live on the Seacoast of New Hampshire with their dog, Dog-Dog (featured in the book). When she is not writing, Amanda’s favorite thing to do is belly-laugh with her family.
This award-winning book puts a name and a story to something so many struggle with in misunderstood silence. The pages reveal a mother’ s love, the power of resilience, and the strength in embracing our true feelings. A children’s book, it is perhaps most enlightening for the adults who love the hurting child. This book should be on every family bookshelf.
This is a deceptively simple book that will change lives for the better! THIS THING HAS A NAME is a terrific resource for adults to help young children learn about identifying, managing and coping with anxiety. With rates of childhood anxiety disorders globally on the rise, starting these conversations early is invaluable and will have a lifelong impact. I especially adored the book's message for kids that they are not defined by anxiety, and that they are still loved and worthwhile despite their anxiety. Such an important message and one of my favourite concepts in any book this year. (No surprise it won an award for just that!)
