An entertaining and well written introduction to beekeeping. Holds up very well given its age, the only outstanding issues being no coverage of varroa (hadn't made it to the US yet) and emphasis on chunk/comb honey over extracted.
A breezy, friendly and informative book. The strangest thing about it is the idea that hobby beekeepers would not be interested in extracting honey, so no helpful tips in that regard. The prose is lively, full of remarks in parentheses, and peppered with unusual and rare words. By way of example: "These bees actually look evil; through their numerous and skulking intrusions through narrow places in other hives, their body hair is worn away to an extraordinary degree, until they possess an appearance that is positively oligophrenic."
