I picked this book at the UBS ages ago but never read it and that was dumb of me because this one was great. The heroine's daughter is 8 but behaves in a much older man which seems weird at first and then we learn it's all because she is still reeling from her father's death. My one problem was it was never explained how the heroine's husband died. Heroine is a famous chef and the hero comes to her house as a fireman responding to her daughter's 911.
And then he kind of becomes a part of their life because of her daughter. The hero thinks the heroine is a drunk at first not realizing she is jet-lagged. I loved their relationship, how it progressed. The hero had his issues because of the death of his half-sister and how it happened and it took him a while to work through them. Overall the book kept me glued.

Marybeth Morley is a widow with an 8-year-old precocious daughter, Miranda. Miranda calls 9-1-1 one Saturday morning when Marybeth doesn't wake up immediately. Gunner Keith is the fireman who responds to the call. He's immediately taken with Miranda, who is very similar to his dead half-sister who dies of smoke inhalation. Marybeth and Gunner fall in love, but must overcome some of his guilty behaviors and her concerns. A couple of brief fairly innocent bedroom scenes.
