4.5 because this sequel had so MUCH IN THE STORY. The author knew exactly what she was continuing from book one. Our FMC must decide on saving herself or the innocent people from these Vessel Games and .. no spoilers because Chloe is too KICK BUTT to skip out on and she is determined to get answers with Octavia, Karina, and (of course) Will. I loved the character development and interaction, I truly fell for these characters and could not read fast enough!

I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!

Rebel Rising is the second part in The Vessel Games series by E.J. Eden. The first book in this series is a real young adult dystopian book. I really loved the fact that it was more about the secrets in stead of the games itself. I was really curious about this second part, but what will E.J. Eden have in store for her readers?

This book is really different from the first part. Even though this book is also a dystopian story, this book is also more about development of the characters. What I really love about this series is the diversity in characters.

‘No one escapes the Games’
And it seems that nobody escapes the Queen’s wrath, either. She practically sends out an army of Flying Monkeys to do her dirty work for her – just like any narcissist. She browbeats & bullies, coerces & controls, gaslights, incarcerates & intimidates, lies & leverages, maneuvers & manipulates, oppresses, persecutes & plots, spins tales & strong-arms, torments & tortures…you name it. This dame has got all sorts of cards up her sleeve and she’s not afraid to use them.
And we should not be afraid of people like her nor of their reactions. We should not live in fear nor make our life choices based on the aftermath imposed by such people. Toxic people got to go!

On another note, this tale (for me, at least) begs the question:
Is this *actually* a dystopia or is it a commentary on IRL toxic masculinity? I’m not talking about males who are raised to be protectors & providers, but rather how toxic trauma gets passed down through the generations until it’s learned behavior then accepted practices. And in some places, law.
Even though this series is suggested for those 18+, I want to stress that the various topics within it get shared with our youth. It’s crucial that they be given the proper tools and advice in order to recognize red flags and handle them well, whether it be at home or school, in the neighborhood, as a “friend” or romantic partner, etc.

Think the author’s trigger warning might apply to me, eh? But seriously. It’s a balancing act between standing up for oneself & others and managing one’s blood pressure & mitigating damages. This is clearly spelled out by the author – up front:
“It’s really important to me that you prioritize your emotional well-being. Your mental health and safety should always come first.”
Respect.

So…um, yeah.
Some sage survival advice from the author:
Collect intel.
Be unladylike.
Life before loyalty.
Secrets can be a form of protection.
Plan your attack covering all angles (don’t rely on any Hail Mary's).

Remember when you’re plotting your next coup that ‘all the best laid plans happen in girls’ bathroom.’ That lil tidbit may come in handy for next in series - ‘The Vessel Games: Dynasty Dawning’ (expected 27 November).

Couldn’t put it down.

This was book two in The Vessel Games series. Overall it wasn’t bad. Some parts seemed a bit rushed and I wish there was a little more detail and time put on certain things. I still enjoyed the book and finished it a lot faster than the first book.
Karina is dealing with her secret pregnancy while also trying to figure out what was happening with Elaine. I still really liked her character in this book even though she could be a little frustrating.
You find out a lot more about Caleb and I actually really liked his character. The whole I’ll kill to keep you safe thing is always a plus for me.
I started to really dislike Will in this book. He was stupid and naive. It also really seemed like he didn’t care about Karina even though she was pregnant with his child. I really hope he redeems himself in the next book but I’m definitely team Caleb.>

I couldn’t put Rebel Rising down!

A solid 4.5-star rating for this incredible second novel in The Vessel Games series by E.J. Eden. This trilogy is set in a not-so-distant dystopian world where the ability to reproduce is slowly disappearing and only a handful of people each year are identified as Vessels, and their hand in marriage is fought for through a Hunger Games/Roman gladiator-style event each year. I thoroughly enjoyed the multiple POVs during the book and the twists that came along! The author did a fantastic job of building on the story elements from book one and also developing the characters' arcs further as they all navigated the aftermath of the events that occurred in the first book.

The only reason I took 1/2 star off the rating was that some pieces of the storyline could’ve been fleshed out more overall, and the conversations between the characters could have been more in-depth. I would’ve loved to learn more about the Shadowlanders in this book, so I’m hoping they play a more significant part in the third and final book of the trilogy.

I finished Rebel Rising in just a couple of days, and I wish I could immediately dive into book 3 of the series. Dynasty Dawning is set to release on November 27, 2023, and I’m so excited I can hardly wait!

I received this ARC (advanced reader copy) directly from the author, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Truly enthralling!
As the stakes grow higher, the characters become more pronounced, more independent- no longer a frail sense of identity. The characters have became the full front of the story, their reactions and behaviors driving the direction the plot is taking. The multiple perspectives throughout the story help me, the reader, have a deeper understanding of not just one main character- but three. Each character has a clear, different role in the plot- and having an understanding of how they work together is truly rewarding. The bigger picture is now captured, a greater grasp on the world-building workings is available.

For the plot twists and reveals, they feel anticlimactic and predictable. There was nothing that really shocked me or made me surprised- so it was kinda monotone and boring to read at times. But what motivated me to continue reading was the characters, learning more about them and witnessing the growth of the author’s writing. For not only are we learning more about the main characters, but also the background characters that are now gaining a new level of importance to the plot.

Thank you to the author for sending me an advance reader copy of Rebel Rising, in exchange for an honest and voluntarily review.

"Rebel Rising" is book two in "The Vessel Games", and a great continuation of the series. I really love the twists and turns in this series, and how the relationships evolve in this second book. There are a lot of emotions involved in this book; some of happiness, friendship and blossoming love. Others of heartbreak, sadness and betrayal... And even though it's always better to make decisions based on the greater good instead of personal gain, there is something to be said about the fact that no good deed ever goes unpunished...

This second book focusses less on the Vessel Games, and more on the growing resentment within the population and the strength of the rebel movement. Some questions from the first book are answered in this second book, leading up to what feels like a big clash coming in the third and final book. I have to say I believe the author managed to keep this second book a lot more action-packed than I usually see in second books in a series, and I'm very curious to see how she will continue this in book three. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out sometime in the future.

OMG! That was one hell of an adrenaline packed, insanely emotional and utterly intense story from beginning to end. I was on the edge of my seat, clutching my chest and gasping at some of the shocking twists that this amazing story takes.

There was so much action, suspense, violence, tragedy, corruption, and wickedness packed into the second part of this story. And all of that plus the twists and turns throughout were slowly building this story into what is sure to be an explosive final epic battle that will determine who the ultimate victors are going to be.

We learn a lot more about each character and some of them start to show their true colours. But with all of the corruption and betrayal going on, I am still unsure who I am hoping for to make through to the end.

The plot is definitely thickening and the way this one has ended definitely left me on bated breath waiting for the final conclusion and contemplating who was going to be alive and get their happy ending when the final showdown begins.

Fantastic writing, amazing characters and a storyline that left me gasping. I can’t wait for the final book!

Absolutely addicted

I started this story yesterday and absolutely demolished it. The first one was good, but this second one was addictive. You fall even more in love with the characters in it. Chloe had finally figured out that she had to be smart about her decisions, but not do they come with a price. Since Queen Mary is the ultimate conniving witch that she is, Chloe and Tiffany break up due to Tiffany wanting her to stop investigating things. Will does what he must to save Karina even though it's driving hey into the send it Caleb, who you definitely fall in love with in this story. I love his devotion to Karina and how he's willing to do anything for her. Ultimately, though I love Will, I find myself hoping that Caleb and Karina get to stay together, and hopefully none of them pass away in the third book.... But obviously that may not be possible since they are going to have to rebel against the rebellion that has taken over New London....

Man, I can't wait to read the next story. If you loved Hunger Games, these stories have the same feel to them and so much depth.

I was generously gifted this book as an ARC. I enjoyed this book much more than the first in the series. However, I feel they could have been merged together into one book. I feel there was more action, and it showed more of the nitty gritty. I loved the twist about the vessels and about Chloe. I am partial to enemies to lovers, and although it isn't quite enemies to lovers (at least there isn't much arguing or believing the other is awful) I still thoroughly enjoyed it and the bond that forms (albeit a trauma bond, at least for now). The baby between Will and Karina was obvious, but I would have loved to see Caleb become more engrossed and attached to Karina's bump before the miscarriage. I feel the way the way the bloodbath of Chloe's games was a bit rushed and could have been written better. I got a bit confused and jumbled due to the way it was described. I do feel that the whole ending was rushed, but I enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one

Following the events of the last Games Will is in hiding, Karina has been married off to Caleb, and Chloe is desperately trying to figure out what her stepmother is up to. With Chloe’s 18th birthday and fertility examination coming up she is determined to stop the games at all cost.

Well I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first. It felt a lot more fleshed out regarding characters, relationship, and world consequences. As well as seeing more of the world outside of London and teasing more of the world itself. One thing I did not expect was Caleb becoming a favorite, he was such an ass in the Games. And honestly I hope Karina stays with him. I cant wait to see how their stories all end, and I hope that after all Chloe’s suffering she at least gets a HEA. Looking forward to the next book.

After the cliffhanger of the first book I just knew the pace and intrigue was going to pick up significantly in the second.
What I loved about this book is the questions I had were answered and did not disappoint and it set itself up really well for the third book.

You could really get behind each of the characters we got to know more about in this book and every character had a clear intention which made their stories easy to follow.

Karina and Caleb’s blossoming relationship was really beautiful to read and I could feel the tug of Karinas heart as she felt so conflicted between Caleb and Will. I am excited to see how the is triangle plays out in book three.

The twists and turns are what I have come to expect from E.J Eden and as I said before they do not disappoint and many of them I did not see coming.

Really enjoyed this read!

Rebel Rising by E.J Eden is book two in The Vessel Games. After reading the first book in the series, I knew I would be fan and I would have to continue reading each and every book. This one picks up directly where the first one ended so needless to say these books aren’t standalones. Once again I found myself both interested and intrigued to the point I read the book in one sitting. I didn’t put my kindle down until I read the final line of this book. The descriptions of worldbuilding are so well done that you are immediately drawn into this world. The plot and pace were done really well, the suspense was on point. The characters are still amazing and I still find myself fascinated and invested. I absolutely need book three in my life as I can’t wait to read even more. Another great book in this series. Amazing.

I almost have no words to say. I feel like saying this book was amazing is an understatement. I was absolutely hooked. This book made me fall in love with Caleb! I can’t believe all the stuff we found out in this book! If you’ve read the first one, then you should know exactly what I mean. I felt all the emotions throughout the book. My heart broke for Chloe and for Karina though. My favorite thing about this story is the fact that it focuses more on what’s happening in the background of the games. The first book was mainly focused on just the games but in this one we dive into everyone’s lives outside of the games and we also get a peek into why the games take place in the first place. We also got to learn a bunch more details about the characters and their back stories than we did in the previous book.

It’s not often that the second book in any series is as good as the first but EJ knocked it out of the park with this one! Chloe, Karina and Will are up against so much more than they originally thought with betrayal, shocking revelations, and tons of unexpected plan changes. The encounter of times my jaw dropped from all the plot twists was more than I was prepared for but it was so amazing! My heart is breaking for Chloe, Will is getting on my nerves a little but he’s getting better, and Karina might be on her way to her HEA and I’m so excited for that! Very much looking forward to Dynasty Dawning to see how this all plays out!

This series got me in such a chokehold! Gah gimme more please?!? I’m so glad I read the Caleb POV before I dig into book 2…(you can get it from the link in the back of book 1) I was hoping I was gonna love Caleb in this book and I’m sooooooo happy the direction book 2 took his character. So much emotional damage with this series but oh my goodness was it worth it. Not happy about the cliffhanger but when is anyone happy with a cliffhanger! I can’t wait to see more of everyone in book 3! I’m hoping it comes out sooner than early 2024!

Omg, the drama and the twists in this book keep you on your toes. I can not wait for book three. I am cheering for Chloe and her friends to succeed in their goal. I'm hoping she is more cautious and calculated about all the moving parts this go around. So far, it seems like everyone around her is one step ahead. Plus, I need to know what happened to the sassy, deadly Octavia. Without spoiling anything, Caleb's character surprised me and I loved it.

E.J. Eden has done it again! The Vessel Games was such an awesome book and Rebel Rising just builds on the first seamlessly! Couldn't put it down - definitely 5*s!

Once again, the story is full of well-timed plot twists you just don't see coming! You can't help but get attached and invested in the characters as E.J. takes you along for the ride with Chloe, Karina and Will. I can't wait to see what is in store for use in Dynesty Dawning!

Another crazy and terrifying ride! All the betrayals. All the loss. All the secrets. The third book is going to devastate me. I'm so glad that so far, Karina, Will, Caleb, and Chloe have survived. But they've all lost so much. I knew Wills Father was as bad as the queen and the king. He was not to be trusted. And my heart hurts for Will because of that. There is so much to do. I fear for Octavia's life. And I pray that Chloe becomes a stronger and better leader.

The story continues with Chloe, being threatened for daring to be who she truly is, and those she cares about having targets on them. Will is trying to find a way to be with Katrina. Intrigue is everywhere and more things you believe are mere illusions. The story is super fast paced and addictive. I read through this second book in a few hours. The author weaves a great story and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.

EJ Eden has put us in a world that is filled with intrigue and nothing is as it seems. This book has held my attention from page one wondering if Chloe and her friends would succeed in ending the vessel games. I love the description of this world and the idea of danger at every turn. Looking forward to see if Chloe is successful and if her and her friends get their HEA.
