Rate this book
There’s a place in Texas the locals avoid at all cost, where the lost go missing and the damned reside.

You won’t find it on any map, there are no road signs to guide you, and once there, may God have mercy on your soul.

For when the scarecrow awakens, the harvest of the living begins. 1978 Sheriff Harold Smite has done all he can to make the yearly harvest run smoothly, but something out in the corn is dying to get free.

Jane Lipman faced the harvest nine years ago and survived. She’s done everything she can to make peace with the past, but Donn, TX isn’t done with her.

Bonnie Smite thought she was simply run down, but she’s been chosen for something special. Something only The Pale Man knows about and he’s not sharing.

Welcome to Donn, Gateway to Hell.

I'm an indie Horror writer who lives deep in the heart of Texas. When I'm not writing novels and stories for anthologies, I'm doing the bidding of 3 adorable huskies. I've been married for over 20 years and have a teenager in the house, so I won't be running out of horror material for quite some time.

Horror Bookworm Reviews
Donn, TX 1978 by Eric Butler
https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/

As a mother and daughter seek sanctuary from an abusive husband, the two find themselves right in the middle of a harvest where sacrificial quotas must be met. Welcome to Donn, Texas 1978. A place you won’t find on any map or road sign. A place where a relentless evil possesses an unending hunger requiring blood for payment in full.

Eric Butler adds another installment to the annals of Donn, Texas. Complete with ominous swarms of deadly crows and a scythe wielding scarecrow, the cornfields are alive with the sound of screaming. Butler has also included an assortment of terrifying evil monstrosities to this horror harvest masterpiece. Believe me, there’s plenty to fear within the hidden shadows of the vast cornfields he has created.

This author has appointed himself judge, jury and executioner as he successfully combines a well constructed storyline with perverse acts of brutality. After receiving the coppery taste from these blood-soaked pages, the desire to explore further into the nightmarish gore and suspense is unavoidable. This well imagined gateway to Hell is a reading experience you don’t want to miss.

We all have our crosses to bear. What is yours? Will you pay your debt in full? Will you survive the quota? If you somehow end up in Donn, Texas by following the number of crosses along the stretch of highways…your best bet is to let things be. A rich harvest Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

Donn, TX is Getting Darker!

Donn, TX 1978 by Eric Butler is probably the most intense, gory, and intricate installments to the series thus far. Donn 1978 brings back many characters that have already been established, but this series is so amazing that it can be read in any order! Eric is at the top of his game! However, Butler never disappoints in his writing. He pours his all into his stories, and polishes them to perfection!

Donn, TX 1978 has many different story arcs that in the end all tie together nicely. Jane, the only survivor of the 1969 harvest, returns to Donn to save a woman and her child from abuse from the husband and father. Three new potential residents arrive by bus. One of whom served with Jane’s late husband. Bonnie Smite begins to suffer from an affliction, and Sheriff Smite has his work cut out for him this harvest. Everyone in Donn has an agreement with The Pale Man. Will the townspeople meet the harvest quota? Will the new arrivals settle in safely? Or will this harvest be brutal for the entire town?

I really enjoyed this Donn, TX entry, as I have all of them. However, I really was drawn into Jane’s story. Why she returned. Not to mention, Eric gives the readers’ details into how Jane takes up an important position in the town, and the reason she is the one who holds the black choker with the red stone. It seemed to be an expansion of Jane’s story from Donn, TX 1969, and I really loved the backstory!

The Pale Man, the scarecrow, the crows, and even Orville seem particularly thirsty this harvest! There is many gruesome death scenes in this entry. Butler pulls them off with finesse with the use of his phenomenal prose. Although Donn, TX 1978 seems to be a bit more violent and gory, Butler has a very classy manner of writing the bloody sequences.

All in all, I give Donn, TX 1978 by Eric Butler five sickles out of five bloody heads! I was definitely not disappointed by this installment of the Donn, TX series. In fact it is yet one more book that will be one of my favorite reads of 2022! If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Donn, TX you need to pick up a copy today! As I stated they can be read in any order, and Butler has made sure that the stories are all cohesive. Until next time, my friends.

Texas sucks. It’s too hot, most people are dimwits, and it’s too hot for a fat kid. (Me, I’m the fat kid.) But you know what doesn’t suck, DONN, TX 1978 by Eric Butler.

In the latest installment of the Donn, TX series, Harold is still trying to keep the harvest in the towns favor but deep down, he and other members of Donn know something just isn’t right this year. We meet Morris, the weary ‘Nam veteran, Rosalina, a woman drawn to the town, and Jane, Susie, and Lisa literally running for their lives. When these lives and the lives of the Donn residents collide, there will be blood… and a lot of it.

Butler really outdid himself with this one. From the first paragraph to the last, he builds some seriously hardcore tension. His gore scenes are more insane, the characters are tortured more (physically and emotionally), and the crows! I HATE BIRDS SO MUCH!

Eric never disappoints (even though I STILL have not forgiven him for THE POPE LICK MASSACRE) and DONN, TX 1978 may just be his best to date. And the best part is, you can read them in any order but start with this one for the goriest, most depraved

Eric Butler amps up the intensity of the latest book in the Donn TX series. More crows, more savagery and a little bit of hope. I had thought this was going to be the last book by the way things were coming together in the story, but I was wrong. I can't wait to see where this journey to Donn takes us.

Welcome back to Donn, TX! It's 1978 and it's Harvest time again!

A Mother and daughter are trying to escape the clutches of an abusive husband and father, and a neighbour helps them to flee and seek refuge! She knows the perfect place! A place where everyone looks out for each other, at least until The Harvest!

This book can be read as a stand alone or as the perfect continuation of the previous stories in this series. It's full of such creepy, haunting, eerie goodness, and if you haven't already read the others, it's definitely going to make you want to dive in and devour them!

This installment is the best one yet! It'll give you nightmares!! (It did with me, which is always a bonus in my book!) The tense atmosphere has you on the edge of your seat the whole way, leaving you breathless and wanting more! Eric really knows how to make you feel the fear, and the utter dread! The story flows really well and is jam packed with action, blood, gore and terror!

The conclusion is brilliant, a fantastic ending, but I still need more……

The Donn, TX books get better with each installment. This is one of the most talented authors I know that seems to be easily overlooked, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. He can blend violence with a story with so much depth to the setting and characters. I can't tell you how many books I've read that there was violence, but with zero world building. Reading A Butler story is always a breath of fresh air.
This book played in my head, as I turned each page, like a movie was literally playing in my imagination. If I could give this book 10 stars I would, but 5 seems to be the highest I can rate it.

This was another great installment in the Donn, TX series. Every book gives you a little more insight and back story to the citizens of this warped and sinister town, while the story still drives forward. There isn't much downtime in these pages, and like everything I've read by Eric Butler Author , nobody is safe. If you haven't read anything from this series yet, I strongly suggest you change that.

The fifth and most current book in the Donn, TX series. We will see if Butler will spoil us with more tales from this little piece of hell in Texas. I read this book in its entirety in under 24hrs. Yes it’s that good. This series really embodies “Abandon all hope ye who enter”. Chef’s kiss!

With the Donn Tx stories having a nonlinear timeline, it tends to have as many twists and turns as I'm sure the actual town would possess! And just like all of those roads, every story leads to terror, suspense, and plenty of gore. 1978 was another fantastic installment in the series.
