When Stars Whisper: A Midwinter Mystery

by Heather Elvidge

The Lights drifted lazily with stars gleaming through the veils of colour. Stillness lay on the icebound lake, on hazy forest and blue tinted fell, on every pebble and frozen twig. Yet this stillness was deceptive. The land was not sleeping. From the forest spirit to the small gods of spring and hollow, from the vole in its burrow to the bear in its den, every creature felt the threat, and trembled... Stars glitter in December's sky as Ross is whirled away on a thrilling journey north. He hopes to realise his dream, to see the Northern Lights. Instead, he is abandoned in a snowy forest. Ross is rescued by Tilda and her grandmother. But when Hirta consults an old friend to solve the mystery of his arrival. Ross and Tilda are drawn into a series of perilous encountwers. In a world of old gods and nature spirits, nothing is quite what it seems.
