Trail Magic #2

Sierra High

Rate this book
One month into my journey, things are starting to look up.

Nova has brought the sunshine back into my life. Helping me put my ex behind me and filling my days with the passion they were missing. But how secure is our new relationship?

Bats has my back, in his quiet, unassuming way. But he’s been hiding something from me. A curiosity I didn’t expect from him. Are his questions as innocent as they seem?

Grinder is as hot and cold as ever. There are days he seems to want nothing to do with me, and days he wants everything from me. Are his promises worth the risk of getting burned?

As our journey takes us into the most dangerous portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, we need to lean on each other now more than ever. But the closer I lean into these three men, the harder I’m pulled towards wanting more than what I already have. In their own way, they each seem willing to give me what my body wants, but is my heart big enough for what they’re asking? Am I the kind of girl that could claim them all?

The higher we climb along our journey, the further I have to fall. And things have just gotten a whole lot rougher.

-----

Sierra High is the second book of the Trail Magic series, a contemporary reverse harem romance set along the Pacific Crest Trail. Determined to put her ex behind her, "Belle" joins "Nova", "Bats", and "Grinder" as they continue their five-month trek from the Mexican border to British Columbia. It’s full of laughs, coffee, cheeseburgers, and chances for a young woman to figure out who she is and what she wants.

Chris enjoys good food, steamy books, and long walks in the forest with his wife. Or the beach. Or parks. Okay, he enjoys long walks just about everywhere, and has since he was a kid. The world around us is simply incredible, and there’s so much to see beyond what you can see outside the car window.

He also loves telling stories. When his two cats aren’t trying to add to his manuscript, that is. A lifetime player of tabletop and role-playing games, he’s always been the one to step forward to run the game, weaving a story for his friends to enjoy. Writing has been something he’s always considered. It just took finding the right story to get him started.

Like a good trail, he doesn’t know where this journey will take him, but he’s going to enjoy the trip.

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Sierra High is the second book in the Trail Magic series. The first book was okay and I wasn't sure what I would think of the second book, for the first half this was a solid 4 stars read. I felt like I was able to enjoy the story more now knowing what to expect and the way the author writes. Also grinder was being not as grumpy as in the first book and was even being nice to Belle. It was pleasant to read.

Then the second half was a struggle, there's a lot of drama and tension. There's heat building between Belle and Grinder, but she's with Nova and happy with him. There are hints of it turning into a reverse harem, but it's a lot of hints and maybes and the drama continues. I didn't like the set up with her already being with one guy and never even discussing the possibility of a reverse harem with him. I felt uncomfortable with Belle's growing feelings for Grinder and how she didn't talk about things with Nova. Then there is something that happens at the end of the book that ruined the book for me, it's a classic case of someone who should've said one ting to clear things up that couldn't prevented it. And having said that makes it okay only from one point of view. I felt like what happened was out of character and I just don't see how they can get back from this.

To summarize: This was a solid read during the first half, but the second half and especially the last chapters ruined the book for me. I felt like I was more used to the author's writing and knew what to expect, so I easily got through the first half of the book and enjoyed it. Then the second half has a lot more drama and Grinder was back to being rude. And then an event at the end just kinda ruined the book for me, it felt stupid with a little sentence that could've changed everything and what one of the characters did was wrong and felt out of character. It's a shame as I was enjoying the whole hiking plot line and setting.

I was lucky to get an ARC copy of this book.
It was SO good! I really didn’t want it to end.
My family are avid hikers so this series is right up my alley, being able to picture the scenery and wanting to one day travel the PCT, even if only a part of it.
I loved seeing their relationships progress as they continue their journey, the part with waxing, quackers! and that ending… can we say Cliffhanger!
I’m anxiously waiting for the next book!

Second book in contemporary RH series by Chris Mor. This book pays more attention to the slowly developing feelings of the three friends and Belle. Not only between the guys and the girl, but also the spinoff feelings or rather tensions between the guys as well. Nova seems oblivious but Bats, Belle and Grinder see and feel the strain and fear for the future. Time could prove the solution or their worst enemy as communication breaks down.
I really enjoyed the development of the relationships and the angst. I still appreciate the setting of trail walking through the USA. However, the description lean more towards the factual side (names of places, materials or trees or even some vague history of the landmark). It shows a lot of knowledge by the author but for someone outside USA many names mean very little. I also wouldn't know the difference between different types of trees but you can still describe a meadow, pass, mountain or view in ways that speak to the imagination a bit more.
That ending though?! I really felt it, loved it and need more :)

HOLY SMOKES! CHRIS MOR IS NOW ONE MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. The Story continues with Belle, Nova, Grinder and Bats continue their journey on the PCT(Pacific Coast Trail). Nova and Belle relationship continue to grow but tension in the group starts to form. Its begins with Belle and Grinder relationship connecting after an accident, the group adjust to finish the trip. Bats and Belle connect over books and asking if she wanted a harem of her own is brought up which worries Belle. Belle past relationship begins to affect her more and more when her feelings for Nova are question by herself. Sadly, Belle feels horrible for the connect with Grinder and make a really tough choice.

I really loved this book. I couldn't put the book down. I really love the details and background of the locations, it makes you feel like you are there.

Overall
10/5( super detailed background of the real trail, great relationship)
Spicy:5/5
MFMM
Cliffy but with keeps you coming back for more

I received an ARC and my review is 100% honest. Best story in a long time

Join Belle and the guys back on the PCT as they navigate their group relationship and each of their separate relationships.

Chris writes with ease. As you read you feel like you are on the trail with his characters. I'm addicted to the hike and Belle and the boys!!!

I cannot wait for book three!!!

The second read-through: I'm enjoying rereading these. it's like coming home. this group of three men and Belle are just amazing!

A wonderful followup to California Sunshine. The story continues alone the trail as tensions start to climb between group members. You wont regret your time on the trail with this amazing story.

ok, I really loved California Sunshine. It was a surprise how much and it is one of the few books that sticks in my mind. I thought about the book and the characters long after I finished reading it.

But with Sierra High, Chris Mor has made it to one of my favorite authors.

This series has gotten even better, I can't tell you how much I love these guys. You would think that two books about hiking would be monotonous - you would be wrong. I loved the plot, the romance, the pace.

Can't wait for the next book!!!

I've been eagerly waiting for this second installment and boy oh boy was it worth the wait! I was mesmerized by the descriptions of the trails, valleys, mountains and streams. The fact that I actually live in an area mentioned makes it even more special. My daughter loves hiking and has done some of the John Muir trails, Donner pass as well. The bits of history thrown in the book just makes me like it even more.I can't even imagine the amount of research that must have been done to write this book, heck book one as well. The horses on the trail made me smile, the 500 plus miles of horse trails (one right on my property) was one of the reasons we bought the property.
The relationship growth is like a flower opening, just wonderful. The real feeling each have and are developing has me holding my breath, wanting more but feeling the fear. Her fear of coming between friends is very real, and valid. Bats that smart smart kind hearted giant, he knows that they all are better together and has gently been trying to open her eyes to what her heart already claimed. Them...
The ending was wow, the cliffy will have me anxiously waiting for the next book to find out what happens next, I'm totally hooked and happily so!

WOW! The gang continues onward up the PCT as a new calm settles over the group at the beginning of this section of the trail. Grinder is allowing Belle to have more time and input into their hiking and Belle is pushing to get him to Canada. Bats is his calm mellow presence while still trying to work through his past and be the peacekeeper. I feel like I know his secret as it's interwoven into the story but not yet addressed since this wasn't his book. This is mostly about Grinder and coming to terms with his life and future. Nova is Nova and that's a big part of the problem that starts to break the group apart. The storytelling is so captivating I feel as if I'm right there with them dealing with all the ups and downs and trail issues. While I would have loved to say I can see myself in Liz's position, that's just a pipe dream but the raw emotions she's going through towards the end of the book are all too human and we've all been in that mindframe. Sometimes words need to come first before actions otherwise misunderstanding arise such as where this last book ends. I need to have Bats take the lead now.

Ok ok, I really liked the first book, but this book.... I LOVED! Buckle your backpacks and lace up your boots, because you are in for a ride. This series has honestly gotten even better. The writing, the plot, and the romance! *Swoon*. I loved this book and gobbled it up in just over a day because I was so engrossed. It makes me want to put on my hiking boots and go find love and adventure on the trail. Fantastic debut series and am so looking forward to book 3!

That Ending......

I am so in love with this series! The descriptions of the trails and surrounding nature are captivating and make you feel as if you are right there along with the group. There was so much character development and growth in the relationships, but also emotional turmoil and tension within the group. I am rooting for these characters to reconcile their issues and hang ups and come together. Let me tell you, I am 100% invested in this series and can't wait to continue the journey with Bats, Nova, Grinder, and Belle. That ending though!!!!!! Aaaaaahhhhhhh! The cliffhanger will leave you feeling all sorts of ways.

Just like the first book, this story was a breath of fresh air! The descriptions of the scenery with little science lessons mixed in kept definitely made me want to visit all the places they hiked through. The author did a great job at keeping the pace going and has quite the knack for balancing the heavy issues with scenes that had me laughing so hard. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Sometimes the first book is amazing and hooks you, and then the second book is a let down. Not this book, this book just keeps getting better. I'm dying to find out what happens next with bella and the boys.

The story continues to follow the journey of Belle, Nova, Grinder, and Bats along the PCT. I enjoy the plot and the characters. I debated back and forth between 3-4 stars. The reason I went with 3 is because it is an extremely slow burn to me between Belle, Grinder, and Bats. At this point I would not even classify it as RH. It takes the whole book to get things out in the open but not with everyone at the same time. That is what frustrates me in books when a simple conversation between the necessary characters can lead the story better instead of all the back and forth of indecision that gets drawn out. There is a cliffhanger at the end but these kind of cliffhangers just annoy me because they aren’t really cliffhangers but based on one-sided mind conversations. I will read the next book to see how the story goes unless it takes too long to come out because I don’t know if my interest will hold.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A month into their PCT trip, Belle, Bats, Grinder and Nova are closer than ever. Having forged a wonderful bond of friendship with Bats and Grinder, and a budding romance with Nova, Belle has been able to begin putting the hurt and betrayal left by her ex behind her. As the trail itself starts to ramp up, the four will need to lean on each other more than they have previously, especially after a couple of setbacks. Belle starts to realise that, even though she is indescribably happy with Nova and where their relationship is heading, she can't help but feel a pull towards quiet, dependable Bats, and hot and cold Grinder. Causing inner turmoil, she's left wanting more than what she feels she should have...but what if the guys are willing to try?

I was super excited when this instalment of Trail Magic ended up on my kindle, I had totally forgotten that it was coming up to release date! I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, and this one did not disappoint either. It held up the high standard of character development and story telling that I witnessed in book one.

I love that the Trail Magic series is not so much like separate books, but more like one big story that is cut down into manageable chunks, while ending on a cliffhanger that, while not TOO bad, has me salivating for book three because I NEED to know what happens. The character relationships were starting to be delved deeper into and I'm so here for that development! I love all of the characters, though I'll admit, Bats is probably my favourite and that hasn't changed from the first book. Grinder is such a complex character and I'm really enjoying getting to go deeper into him as a person and see what makes him tick, and the relationship dynamic between him and Belle as it develops is pure fire! I love that the three male leads in this book are so different from each other, which gets explored more in this instalment. I'm still waiting for the ex-boyfriend of Belle to show up at some point and for these three princes to put him in his place...or knock his block off...which ever happens first.

The setting is no less majestic than it was in book one. Getting to learn about the PCT is wonderful and I love feeling like I'm taking this journey with the characters. I've only read one other book that was set on a trail (for lack of a better term). That book was set on the Camino De Santiago, and I found that I just thoroughly enjoyed a story that was set against a changing backdrop. One that really gave you that sense of travelling with the characters and getting to learn and grow with them. The views and vistas that Mor describes in this story are absolutely beautiful, and it honestly makes me want to go and see it for myself. Being able to drop your reader right into the middle of a setting and have them feel like they're actually there is a gift.

This was a fantastic follow up to the first book and I'm hungrily awaiting the release of book three. I'm so keen to see where the story heads and how the character relationships develop and grow as it progresses. There's so many possibilities and I'm dying to know which ones come to fruition (though I'm fairly certain I already know what one thing is, I'm still looking forward to actually getting to read it!). This is a story that's light enough that it doesn't drop you into a pit of despair yet touches on relevant topics tastefully. It has well rounded and real characters that you can't help but feel like are walking beside you, and it's a wonderful story of self-discovery, exceeding your own expectations and staying true to yourself.

"You're on a once in a lifetime trip. Might as well take a once in a lifetime shot."

That ending!!!! This series is so amazing for it being such a slow burn RH. Don't get me wrong, we got lots of steam between Nova and Belle, but we are still running behind in the harem department.

The trek continues and with 1000+ miles behind them, they are doing fantastic. The author continues to write with such passion for the overall hike, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I live in Northern California and feel like a trip to Yosemite is in my very near future. While the hike has not been all sunshine and rainbows, it has also been tiring, steep, ankle twisting and soul searching. Belle and Nova are the perfect couple, and they complement each other in more ways than one. But Bats and Grinder also have so much to offer, and Belle is having a hard time truly realizing what she wants when both of them also make their intentions known.

"The lines between fantasy and reality are getting way too blurred."

Grinder gets to his breaking point where seeing his best friend have what he wants becomes too much and it comes down to Belle's worst nightmare. Could the hike be over a lot sooner than she realized? Belle is content in choosing Nova, but her mind and her body are in two separate worlds and the book ends with her making a decision that she thinks will ruin it all!

"He's a frickin' heatwave on a gray winter day. A Day at Disney land with no lines and all the Mickey pretzels I could want."

I am truly enjoying this series. I am normally one who wants all the smut right away, but this series is my new obsession that I do not want to put down. I love everything about it. The characters are awesome, the hike they are on is fascinating and all-consuming. I will never be one to do a hike like this, but with this book, I feel like I am right alongside them, taking it all in. Book three can't come soon enough.

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 3/5
*Multiple first person POV
*Slow build with harem, but definitely some spice
*Ends on cliffhanger.

Loving the journey

Book one really captivated me. It was something so unique and "real" in this RH space. Book two keeps that same vibe and feel as we progress beyond the characters being super new to each other and trying to figure out how they work together. In this second installment the journey continues and there is a "mountain to climb literally and metaphorically. The relationship between Belle and Nova is so sweet and they are becoming beautiful friends in addition to their romance. We start to get a sense for where things might go next in the growing feelings Belle and the guys have for each other. We also receive a healthy dose of the drama one might expect in this type situation. The ending definitely left me craving book three. I'm loving this entire journey and can't wait to see the developments I anticipate are coming in book three.

If you were here for California Sunshine, Sierra High is all that and more!

The adventure continues with Belle, Nova, Grinder, and Bats. I freaking LOVE Bats/Nick, and think he may be my favorite character. Endlessly calm, and always there to support his friends. Nova and Belle's relationship continues to grow, while Grinder has to come to terms with the fact that he wants her too. Sierra High is full of beautiful landscapes, relationship troubles, and trouble on the trail. The story left me wanting to know immediately what happens next, but now I have to wait. For California Sunshine being Chris Mor's first book, Sierra High is a bomb second! He's got the genre down, and I cannot wait to see where this story goes!

I’m addicted, plain and simple.

Book one was endearing to me on a realistic and relatable level. Book two?!? Sweet baby goats am I OBSESSED with this story now! Like my goshhhhh I cannot wait for the next book!

The spice significantly increased in Sierra High! And I admit I did not see those scenes coming but wow oh wow is this a turn I am 100% ready for! Bats, Nova, and Grinder all three underwent a Matthew Lewis level glow up with their personalities and intimate intensity in this chapter of the story! I’m still flustered after reading those last few chapters!

And Belle?!? Girl is so freaking smart and funny and caring and she deserves the whole dang world!

I need more from this author that’s a definite!

This is the second book in the Trail Magic series by @chrismorauthor and continues on the trail where California Sunshine ended. Belle, Grinder, Bats and Nova are traversing the Pacific Crest Trail as a group, but they have more than the 2,650 mile hike to contend with. Each of them brought a problem from their home lives with them that continues to haunt their steps, but as they grow closer together it seems other problems are brewing too. The mix of nature and their relationships with each other make this a great read! 🛑

Slow burn Magic

One of the best slow burn contemporary RH books I've read in 2022. The story and the descriptions of their journey along the trail are both fantastic. But what makes this series really stand out for me is the characters and the development of their relationships. I love how naturally and honestly the relationships are formed and the characters are developed. The writing is also great. I cannot wait to read the next book!

Love is still in the air as Belle and her guys experience the highs and lows of the Pacific Crest Trail as it traverses the Sierra Nevada. Mor's outdoor experience breathes life into the setting in which our intrepid hikers wrestle with their feelings for one another as much as they wrestle with the snows, the mileage, and all the other challenges of through-hiking a long trail.

As the story unfolds, it's sure to challenge those readers who don't normally indulge in reverse-harem romances.

I really hate that I had to rate it this low, but it was just really frustrating. I was very irritated by people constantly going against what they said they would do, miscommunication, and the ending was the worst. I still want to keep reading this series, but it would take a lot for it to be redeemed.

I’m a person who absolutely loves RH, but it needs to be communicated and agreed upon prior, and this book doesn’t do this at all.

Great Continuation!
Filled with humor, angst and steam and much more! The story kept me interested and wanting more. I thought this book really focused on the building relationships between Belle and the guys. I love that we got the guys POVs as well. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I can't wait for book 3!!

Be warned book 3 isn’t out yet and the release date is “Spring” 2023. I try not to start a series unless it’s complete and should have done more research on this at book one. Mid way through book three I went to the author’s website to see there are plans for FOVE BOOKS! I may die between releases as the PCT holds massive allure for me. Loved this series just wish they were all complete!

One of the things I love most about this series is I get to experience something I never will in real life—a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. Hiking is not a hobby of mine, but following Belle, Grinder, Nova, and Bats as they make the journey is my jam. Reading as the four of them try to figure out the lives they'll eventually have to return to and what they mean to each other is great. Love these characters, and I can't wait to see how they react to the ending of this book.

Great sequel!

Felt a little slower than book 1 but still a great continuation to the story. Be forewarned this one does end on a cliffhanger but it'll just make book 3 all the sweeter. Can't wait for more!
