Rate this book

I do believe there can be a novel with quality erotic scenes (erotic, not porn). And this book has it. A bit repetitive and not too original but still.

I also believe that there can be a quality erotica in a good story. This book has it. Not a very grabbing story, but still.

Moreover I believe that a quality erotica story can have round, believable characters. And this is where the book lost one star (was thinking of "I liked it" before). Throughout all the book I just could not believe how a very, very inexperienced, uneducated young girl from the middle of nowhere can learn so quick how to sustain herself in one of the most important and special places in the whole country. I could believe she quickly learned how to wear those crazy dresses, how to look at people, when to talk, even what and how to talk (I am sure she was working on her accent). But for all the rest of her actions - I just did not believe that she was capable of all this in such a short notice. And in those times

So the book is OK, much better than other erotic or "wannabe" erotic novels. But I care of the credibility of the characters too much.

Lots of Drama and Tension! Read it in two days because the book really caught my attention, which is difficult for me. The trope and characters and plot twists are amazing.

I received a free copy for an honest review. Marie is a young girl who desperately wants to leave her dire circumstances and live a life of luxury with jewels and clothing. As she navigates living in a royal palace, her objective is to become the king's favorite mistress. Her plans are taking form until she meets Tris. Their relationship is rocky, deceptive, and full of twists and turns. Based on the fact that this story was written "around the time of Louis XIV", the circumstances surrounding how Marie became a mistress are very realistic as are her ambitions to use any methods possible to secure her future. My absolutely favorite chapter was the epilogue and the revelation of who killed the Comte.
