I only didn't like how, in the middle of it, the pace quickly went up, when before it was really slow-paced. It felt like the author suddenly realized they have a limited page/chapter count to publish the Manga but didn't want to redraw the first half... which is totally understandable, if that's the case, but a bit off-putting at first.
Still, overall it was really cute and
It's also nice how Akira's character was handled. She didn't just miraculously turn poly, and it is being acknowledged that she's still getting used to it.
The scene at the beach was so beautiful, I totally cried my eyes out!!
It was a bit too dramatic overall... but I hope the author does more of them, cause I'd really like a third volume of them just being cute (& sexy ;) girlfriends... but overall I'm happy that this exists and that I got to read it! *-*
Personally, I'm pretty tired of love triangles. They frustrate me, especially because most of the time the main character is torn between two love interests, whom the MC seems to love both. And as I've gotten older I've asked myself more and more often: Why does the MC have to choose between these people? Why can't they love both? When I was the target audience for YA, a genre that was at the time (and perhaps still is) oversaturated with love triangles, I wouldn't have dared to asked that question. Because polyamory wasn't even something I thought to consider. And on a more personal note, I have struggled and still struggle with really getting romance. My view of romance as a teen was heavily derived from the media I consumed rather than any real-life examples. And the media I consumed was entirely monogamous, so this influenced my future readings of books with romance in them.
I'm not that kind of person anymore. I've read several comics and books with non-monogamous relationships these past few years. Since the beginning of this year, I have read nine, if you count both of the volumes of this manga seperately. I think polyamorous relationships can make for really interesting explorations of characters, their personalities, and how they make their relationships work. But they're still underutilized in most literature, not necessarily because nobody wants to write them, but because few publishers want to publish them (For an example, go read what Xiran Jay Zhao had to say about the struggle of getting their YA novel Iron Widow, which features a polyamory triad, published).
So this manga... it is by no means the best manga I have read this year, but just by virtue of being a manga that shows polyamory in a positive light, as a real option, as not doomed to fail, it is a small miracle. And the road to getting there is a bit rocky, sure. And dear God, I still hate it when mangaka draw french kissing so... detailed. But at the end of the day, I'm just so glad that there is a manga where an f/f/f triad is endgame.
I hope I'll get to read more manga that treats polyamory this well. Not a harem/"reverse harem" where the MC ends up choosing someone at the end, not a love triangle where the MC ends up choosing someone in the end, not something that just exploits polyamory for being "weird" and "taboo", and not something where someone's love for two people comes across as doomed (like Sweet Lovin' Baby by Ebine Yamaji, in my opinion). So if anyone reading this has any recommendations, please tell me (but please no erotica). I'm thinking about reading Moshi, Koi ga Mieta Nara, but I'm not even sure if that one will be polya or if it'll be yet another love triangle (at least it would be a gay one though).
