Flushed with success from the Finch case, Marlowe Bond receives a panicked email from a man claiming a murderous doll has her sights set on him. Despite the stories of madness and pain attached to the doll’s alleged victims, Marlowe is keen to go full throttle on the case with no regard for his own safety. His boyfriend, on the other hand, wants to pump the brakes before the evil toy kills them all.
The last thing Trip Cahill wants is to get involved with the plot of a horror movie come to life. But he knows there’s no stopping Marlowe when he has his mind set on something. So Trip agrees to help with the case, figuring it’s his best chance at keeping his stubborn ghost hunter safe.
But all bets are off when Marlowe is attacked. Trip doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt, while Marlowe refuses to abandon their client in his hour of need. Even worse, they both know it may be too late for them to walk away now that a murderous entity has their scent.
Can Marlowe and Trip convince the angry spirit to cross over, or will they be the next victims to be cursed?
Sick of the slogging rat-race of her 9-5 job, Pandora Pine put pen to paper (literally!) to make her ambition of becoming a romance novelist a reality. She cut her teeth in the dog-eat-dog world of fanfiction, still dreaming of the day when she would be a published author. She lives in Massachusetts with her blabbermouth muse who’ s a fan of middle of the night plot twists.
In her spare time, Pandora fancies herself an amateur nature photographer. She enjoys mucking around in swamps, hiking through the woods and crawling around on her hands and knees in her backyard seeking out the perfect shot. Pandora is a fan of roadside seafood shacks and always thinks Mexican food is a good idea at the time.
Some of Pandora’s favorite things are chocolate, writing longhand with purple pens and handsome men falling in love with each other.
Don't miss Pandora’s seductive new novel coming soon to an e-reader near you.
Three and a half stars rounded down to three. I quite like this series and this story showed a lot of promise. I found it creepy but I really didn't connect with the two main characters as much as I had in the previous books. The story is short - only about 70 pages - and I think that this was part of the problem. The build up was good and it kept me wanting to read with one eye closed but it was the final confrontation which did not do it for me. It all happened to quickly. I don't want to say more as I don't want to give anything away. The author knows how to write and this is evident. Although this can be read as a standalone it is best read in order as there are references to the earlier books.
Trip and Marlowe are once again back on another case and boy is this one super creepy! Pandora worked her mind magic and gave us a super creepy haunted doll in this book because, of course, she would, right! Although I'm not sure who is worse the doll or Devin lol. Anyways, just like with all her books we get characters that we love so much, with cameos from Tennyson and Ronan, and a fantastic story that sinks its claws into us. I could gush all day about how much I loved reading this and I'm definitely looking forward to whatever she writes next, but I loved that little teaser! I would highly recommend picking this book up today and give it a go!
I love a creepy ghost story. Throw in one of those old school Victorian style dolls and I'm sold! Cursed is the third case Marlowe and Trip investigate and, whilst it isn't strictly necessary to have read their first two adventures, I'd recommend it to get the best understanding of where their relationship is at...It's not a hardship, though, they're all entertaining.
Long story short, this is a great but quick read, with enough chills for the run up to Halloween and enough of a tease to want to jump right into the next book - both for the intriguing case, and to see where Trip and Marlowe are headed together in the next phase of their relationship. 4.5*
I love a good ghost story and Ronan, Ten and Jude along with their ever expanding family have always been a must read for me but I struggle to care for Marlowe and Trip in the same way. I find Marlow especially hard to like, he seems almost childlike and oblivious to Trip’s unease.
The subject of this book is one I find creeps me out, evil dolls! There’s something about a child’s toy being possessed that is scary. This book was very short and I felt the end wrapped up very quickly but it was an entertaining hour and half.
I agree that this was a super creepy story. Possessed dolls reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode where the doll threatened to kill the little girl's stepfather and then did. I admit that Marlowe is not one of my favorite characters and he was his usual annoying self but the ending was very satisfying and the e-mail they got sounds like their next case.
Had to keep reminding myself this is Pandora Pine and not Stephen King with mind terrifying books. This is first of the authors book that both terrified and bought out the mind terrifying nightmares of dolls and clowns which I'm both terrified of. The ending was creepy and bloody hell with Victorian age.
I am glad that I did not read this book while alone on a dark and stormy night. I have always loved dolls, but now I think every time I see a doll I will think of this book. Thought it was a good story, well-written and of course Trip and Marlowe are memorable characters. Will be reading again. Recommend.
I absolutely adore the Haunted? series. Marlowe and Trip are both fabulous and it's brilliant that Ten and Ronan pop in from time to time. I have to say though that I personally found Cursed beyond creepy and it's given me a serious case of the chills. Amazing book and I'm already yearning for the next one!
Talk about abrupt endings! I mean, yeah, there was a VERY strange epilogue after, but that went from 60 to 0 in .3 seconds! 🤦♀️
While I am enjoying this series, it is in no way as entertaining as other series by this author. Maybe I am just not clicking with Marlowe and Trip? Who knows? Anyways, the epilogue has left us hanging, so I will impatiently be waiting for book #4... grrr 😭
This was an interesting story despite the creepy, creepy doll. I liked the premise, and I do like Marlowe and Trip, but this seems to be more of a filler series compared to the others by this author. The ending was left with a nice dangle of intrigue for a future book, but it's been almost 3 years, so I wonder if we will ever get to know more.
Really enjoyed seeing Trip and Marlowe again. Story was good but felt a little rushed. Felt like I could have kept reading for longer. Good that my favourite duo popped in for a chat. I hope we get to see Trip and Marlowe again soon.
3.5 stars A fun side story, but very slight in length. It felt more like a short story than a novel. The Possessed Doll trope never did anything for me. I don’t find it the least bit threatening. Still, it was good to keep tabs on Trip and Marlowe, if only for a short time.
I'm not sure about this one. Normally I love the books by this author, but this one just felt almost rushed in the end. How did something so evil get a happy ending? I did not like it 😐.
Im a great Pandora Pine fan but these short books just don't do it. There is insufficient time to build up the story and then the conclusion is fast and unsatisfying
I enjoyed these boys so much. I hope there's more to them than three books. They weren't as saucy as others in stories, but I liked the mystery involved with each story
