While a bit dated, this book is at a great level for introductory level college lit courses or advanced high school lit courses. Several advantages are the inclusion of a variety of pieces from across Spanish speaking America, the inclusion of vocabulary in footnotes and a more thorough glossary at the end of the book and the fact that the pieces are relatively short one-act plays (ideal for language learners and also for ease of pedagogical manipulation in the classroom). The downsides: Again, the book is a bit dated. Unfortunately, it is also out of print. The order of the pieces is not chronological, thematic or geographical but based on an attempt by the editors to arrange the pieces in order of complexity. I have not found the order of the book to be very useful. I would like a more even distribution between female and male authors, and perhaps a wider representation of Caribbean pieces. On the other hand, given the sparcity of what is out there for an introductory level theater class that aims to cover more than a small geographic area, I'm happy to have this option.
